Lose Your Mind
Kodaline Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Loosen up and lose your mind
You never know what you could find on the other side
A hundred thousand butterflies
Floating in the orange skies above my head
I wander lonely as a cloud
Floating high above the ground with aeroplanes
I hear the sound of hummingbirds
The sweetest sound I've ever heard, I can't describe

Oh oh, I'm dreaming up a world with you
Oh oh, and all the things that we could do

Feeling like a plastic bag
Spinning 'round but slowly going nowhere fast
Waterfalls inside my eyes
Am I on the other side, am I dreaming?
Holding on to a dolphin's fin
He helps me swim where I can't swim, he's friendly
Loosen up and lose your mind
You never know what you could find on the other side

Oh oh, I'm dreaming up a world with you
Oh oh, and all the things that we could do

Walking on a tightrope wire
Dropping poison pills of fire, hypnotized
Euphoria will be here soon
Turn the lights down, let the answers fill the room

Oh oh, I'm dreaming up a world with you
Oh oh, and all the things that we could do

A hundred thousand butterflies
Floating in the orange skies above my head
Loosen up and lose your mind
You never know what you could find on the other side

All of the things that made you feel better
You should take a pen and write it down and make it feel better

All of the things that made you feel better
You should write it all down and put it in a letter

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kodaline's song Lose Your Mind are about letting go and embracing the unknown. The opening lines encourage the listener to loosen up and let their mind wander because they never know what they may discover on the other side. The imagery of "a hundred thousand butterflies floating in the orange skies" and "waterfalls inside my eyes" evoke a dreamlike state, suggesting a sense of freedom and exploration.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the idea of dreaming up a world with someone, and all the things they could do together. It's a call to leave one's inhibitions behind and take hold of the possibilities presented by the unknown.

The second verse talks about feeling like a plastic bag, spinning around but going nowhere fast. It's a metaphor for feeling stuck in life, and the waterfalls inside the singer's eyes suggest an emotional turbulence that they can't quite shake. But the image of holding on to a friendly dolphin's fin provides a sense of support and the possibility of exploring new depths.

The final verse talks about walking on a tightrope wire and dropping poison pills of fire, likely a metaphor for the challenges of life. But the singer finds euphoria in letting go and embracing the answers that fill the room when the lights are turned down.

Overall, Lose Your Mind is an encouraging song that celebrates the potential for growth and discovery that comes when one takes a risk and embraces the unknown.

This is incredible... The song is beautiful and the video concept compliments it so well. The man lives a humble life, and through watching his experience in an average day we see he's humble, doesn't have luxuries like a nice house or car. However, this guy is so at peace with everything he is - he does what makes him happy (ducky in the tub, dressing unconventionally, wearing white robes to the store). When he meets the 2 men at his apartment he opens their third eye (awareness through consciousness of one's self/the world around them). They're completely lost for a day and walk around in a haze trying to comprehend what they just learned from the old man. Then they too are conscious and pass along a good deed/positive action by helping the lady on the street. Moral is that happiness only comes from your inner world (your consciousness), not things from the physical world (luxurious lifestyle, other people's opinions, romantic partner). If you act consciously by not reacting negatively to situations (2 guys following you home for dressing g different) then those actions cause other people to be positive which spreads like wildfire.

The most sensible and accurate comment i've read until now on this music video. Thank you for this beautifull message. The guru shown in the picture is called Osho. Have you ever heard about him?
