Born in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo to a Congolese mother and Ghanaian father, Koffi grew up in Kinshasa.
He went to France to study, while in Paris, he began playing the guitar and writing songs. On his return to Congo he was a member of Viva la Musica, Papa Wemba's band. Koffi repopularized the slower style of soukous, which had fallen out of fashion. He dubbed this style Tcha Tcho, and it gained popularity outside Congo. Koffi's music can be quite controversial, taking on current events and topics considered taboo in some conservative societies. He has also participated in the salsa music project Africando.

Koffi Olomide’s song Femme is a celebration of love, femininity, and resilience. The song uses poetic language to highlight the strength and beauty of women, comparing them to flowers with both fruits and thorns. The lyrics also touch on themes of commitment and sacrifice in relationships, as well as the idea that love can heal even in difficult situations. The lyrics ask questions about the nature of love, such as whether it has the power to conquer all mistakes and whether it can survive even the most difficult circumstances.
The song Femme has been immensely popular since its release in the early 2000s, and has become one of Koffi Olomide's most beloved songs. In addition to its popular appeal, the song has been recognized for its beautiful lyrics, with many fans praising the intricate wordplay and metaphors used throughout. Despite some controversy surrounding Koffi Olomide's personal reputation in recent years, the enduring popularity of Femme is a testament to the artist's ability to capture the complexities of love and celebrate the strength of women.
