The title track «Pangea» - the first single from their upcoming album - shows a band who can still write anthems in Norwegian, and that easily can play at both big festival stages and at small village parties.
Kråkesølv’s music is still anchored in two guitars, bass, drums and lyrics written in their own dialect. But this time they have forced themselves to paint with a broader brush. «Pangea» shows a band challenging staid frameworks, and they are moving into landscapes that bands like Dungen and Radiohead have plowed before. But, as always, Kråkesølv land safely on their own Northern Norwegian feet.
The reason why Kråkesølv now are taking a different direction than before, is mainly due to their producer, Lars Horntveth (Jaga Jazzist, Susanne Sundfør). In addition to producing, he has contributed in many ways, with giving good advice, with being a motivator and with playing instruments like piano, mellotron and vibraphone. Throughout the entire recording process, Horntveth has also been offering them fresh coffee and fiery cheers.
Their lyrics have the same melancholy character that has coloured Kråkesølv’s universe since their debut album, and they continue to make connections between interpersonal and universal matters.

du les mæ helt perfekt men æ lar dæ få tvil
The lyrics of Kråkesølv's song "Stødig som en bauta" are a reflection on the struggles of maintaining appearances and keeping up with the façade of being emotionally stable and in control, while inwardly experiencing turmoil and insecurity. The singer admits to putting on a front of calmness and control, but constantly doubting themselves, and feeling the pressure of being judged and held accountable for their actions. The first verse conveys the idea of the singer feeling like a child trapped in an adult's body, constantly trying to convince themselves that they are holding up well and handling things maturely, while hiding their true feelings from others. They are aware that they are being perceived in a certain way by those around them, but they are not confident that they can uphold that perception.
The chorus talks about the struggle of appearing emotionally strong and unmovable, like a statue or a monument, while grappling with their own internal struggles. The repetition of the words "kald og passiv" (cold and passive) reinforces the idea of the singer trying to suppress their emotions and put on a façade of being in control. However, the word "stødig" (steadfast) adds another layer of complexity to the song, suggesting that the singer may not just be pretending to be stable and in control, but actually trying to be that way. The idea of being "standhaftig" (steadfast) in the face of adversity implies a sense of resilience and perseverance, even though the singer may be feeling vulnerable and insecure.
Overall, the song seems to be an exploration of the struggle of balancing external appearances with internal turmoil, and the pressures of living up to certain expectations. It highlights the difficulty of admitting to oneself and others that one is not always okay, and the fear of being judged and misunderstood. The use of imagery, such as that of a bauta (a stone monument), adds depth and texture to the song, suggesting a sense of solidity and permanence, but also a certain heaviness and solemnity.
