Way We Move
Krakota Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, yeah you know the way we do,
Black Ray Bans got a fella looking cool,
Air Ones when I'm stepping with the crew,
Thats why your girlfriend loves the way we move,
Cos we get high,
Call me Tempa T I'm on a next hype,
Anywhere we go, you know I bring vibes,
Anywhere I go, you know we bring vibes,

Overall Meaning

Krakota's song Way We Move features lyrics that describe the way his crew moves and presents themselves. The opening lines "Oh, yeah you know the way we do" sets the tone for the rest of the song. He's confident, self-assured, and clearly aware that people take notice of his crew's presence. The line "Black Ray Bans got a fella looking cool" suggests that they've created a cool, magnetic vibe around their look, a fashion statement that garners attention. Similarly, "Air Ones when I'm stepping with the crew" highlights the importance of footwear to their overall aesthetic.

The lyrics continue to suggest that their energy is infectious and attractive to others. Specifically, "Thats why your girlfriend loves the way we move" implies that their movements and behavior are particularly appealing to women. They "get high" and are "on a next hype," suggesting that they're on top of the world and living their lives to the fullest. Importantly, they're able to share that energy with others - "Anywhere we go, you know I bring vibes, anywhere I go, you know we bring vibes." This suggests that their energy is powerful enough to permeate wherever they are, and it's a testament to their ability to create a magnetic presence wherever they go.

Edited to fix Siri’s god-awful voice dictation.

Mixed feelings. In the United States at least, this is the kind of vocal I hear on just about every pop music station. Far too heavily auto-tuned vocals with that specific style of vocal flow (I clearly don’t know the proper musical terms, but I recognize similar sounds). So I don’t feel terribly happy about hearing those vocals in the genre I prefer. I like that I’ve been avoiding mainstream radio style music.

On the other hand, it can be viewed as mainstream radio music infused with drum and bass. That main melody is using a sound I’ve heard in several drum and bass tunes that I like - some tracks that are pretty old. I don’t know who started and/or popularized that synthesizer sound that is used for the main melody here. LDouble? dBridge? I can’t remember. But it’s a sound I like. Did Degs recently use it? (It was Bru-C’s “Streetside” I was thinking of.)

I guess I’m just currently on uncertain footing considering this song has its feet in two (in my opinion competing) genres. Drum and bass is supposed to be more futuristic, forward leaning, pushing boundaries… While radio music plays it safe, staying in the present, regurgitating a formula because record executives know that it sells.

I suppose one could argue it is pushing the style of drum and bass by incorporating even more radio friendly sounds into it, but I feel like going that route has already been walked by several people, for a long time. I would maybe trace it back to Pendulum where they made drum and bass a little more commercialized, at least in the overall dance scene, which could be the catalyst for expanding DnB even more. I think it’s fair to add some songs by Metrik and 1991 and Matrix and Futurebound (“Control” has such a standard radio friendly female vocal but it makes me MELT, I love it so much!) and Wilkinson,

And of course I’m all for expanding DnB to new horizons, I obviously said earlier in this comment that it’s supposed to push boundaries. I just don’t think pushing towards a more radio friendly sound is pushing boundaries, at least not anymore.

I dig the instrumental portion of this. I don’t want this to be a mean comment, I want to complement the stuff that I like. And I would like to complement the singer but I don’t know what he sounds like, he’s completely auto tuned. I might play this more if there was an instrumental version.

But at the end of the day I understand artists need to support themselves and their families and just like mainstream radio that sticks to what works to make money, drum and bass artists also need to produce music that makes money in order to feed themselves and afford to keep making music. I’d like to think that producers make these kinds of songs in order to fund passion projects the same way many Hollywood actors agree to terrible blockbuster movies in order to fund their indie passion project. Not that this song is “terrible” at all.

I just hope we move away from radio friendly sounding tunes.
