With Krept growing up in Gipsy Hill and Konan growing up in Thornton Heath, they started in their neighbourhoods from an early age. As time went on krept and konan became friends outside of music and in due time realised we both had a musical talent in mc/rapping. It was then only a matter of time when they both came together to make a few songs for the fun of it. The songs had the streets going crazy, everybody had them on their phones, it is then when they realised their music potential. Unfortunately later down the line in 2007 konan went into incarceration for a whole year which had a major effect on their music path. Krept did not concentrate on music during konan’s incarceration, and at this point music was not in the picture for either of them. However in 2008 Konan was then released from jail and music was still not in the picture for either krept or konan.
A few weeks after konan’s release a friend of both krept and konan had a studio who occasionally invited them round to make tracks here and there. As these tracks were released their fanbase began to grow again it was then when they both decided to put more effort into the music. The two then started doing music videos, freestyle videos and releasing more tracks as time went on and the fanbase continued to grow. Both krept and konan then released a mixtape together called “Redrum” which was made due to high demand. At this point it was clear to everyone that krept and konan became a duo in the music scene, and at this moment all they were missing was a name. This is where Krept and konan both came to the decision of the name “Play Dirty”. They are now an official group which will be expanding in the future to more artists producers etc..

Krept & Konan Lyrics

It's pretty clear I am not one to trick the towns
A million day dreams and Nightmares of prison yeah
Down in there
It's redder than red
Speaking of down there
It's redder than red
Down in there
Down there
Listen
Its like the premier league where I'm living
Enough teams let me fight for their position
Nigga don't be slipping, because everybody's Wigan
Get a clip, fill 'em up start spitting
Running round city with an Arsenal top
Have your top redding if they hit you all up
Swap Chelsea around you'll see shell's
One shot will make your liver pool, blud
Yeah the hood had my Nigga's moving devilish
It was R.I.P if they let it rip
Snap my finger, I could get my clip
They'll make your blood poor
Because they were never rich
Because I'm from where the killers are
Banana clips got gorilla's in charge
So little nigga down the road stay spitting your bars
Or have have the wig on a star like Nicki Minaj
130 years what they gave to my dogs
Doing life for a crime they didn't commit
I speak to Femz and I know it's killing him quick
And people wonder why we police-anti
Because they don't know how unfair the police can be
It's mad G, just bare beef
Our hands freeze the only time you'll hear peace
Deep inside this city where the streets know no pity yeah
It's pretty clear I am not one to trick the towns
A million day dreams and Nightmares of prison yeah
Down in there
It's redder than red
Speaking of down there
It's redder than red
Down in there
It's redder than red if you get deep enough down there
Down there
Konan
Just another piece of my story
Through the pain and the guts and the glory
Now I put my all in the music
Because since I've got free it's been the only thing for me
No face showing
Run up on you with the tool if they find that your growing
Because most men here track Jordan's on but won't put the Air Max
Slave mentality, dreams of a Maybach
With black's so white like they're trying to get payback
But now I'm on stage looking at the crowd
In the 02 making everyone proud
But I swear I'm too real for this shit
So all the fake love kills me a bit
Just imagine how it feels when your big
We're selling food now it's [?]
So I don't give a fuck if they like us
I see my dreams better with my eyes shut
I was at wireless
Thinking I've come a long way from dial-up
Pocket full of queens, heart of a king
Trying to do it big but the chances are slim
Looking at the photo of my little sister
I'm just trying to make her see the bigger pitcure
Deep inside this city where the streets know no pity yeah
It's pretty clear I am not one to trick the towns
A million day dreams and Nightmares of prison yeah
Down in there
It's redder than red
Speaking of down there
It's redder than red
Down in there
It's redder than red if you get deep enough down there
Down there
The lyrics to Krept & Konan's song, Nightmares, describe the tough reality of living in the city where the streets know no pity. The artists talk about their experiences growing up in an urban area where violence and crime are prevalent. The line "A million day dreams and Nightmares of prison yeah" emphasizes the weight of this reality that is always lurking in the back of their minds. The use of the color red throughout the lyrics symbolizes the danger and violence that they face every day.
The second verse speaks directly to the dangers of living in the city. The artists describe the violence and gang culture that surrounds them, with lines such as "Because I'm from where the killers are" and "We're running round city with an Arsenal top." The lyrics also touch on the feelings of injustice that they feel towards the legal system, with lines such as "Doing life for a crime they didn't commit." Konan's verse towards the end of the song speaks to the struggles of being a successful artist but still feeling weighed down by the trauma of growing up in the city.
