In 1985, Kristofferson joined fellow country artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash in forming the country music supergroup The Highwaymen, and formed a key creative force in the outlaw country music movement that eschewed the Nashville music machine in favor of independent songwriting and producing. In 2004, Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. As an actor, he is known for his roles in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Blume in Love (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), A Star Is Born (1976) (which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor), Convoy (1978), Heaven's Gate (1980) and Blade (1998).
Kristofferson has said that he would like the first three lines of Leonard Cohen's "Bird on the Wire" on his tombstone:
Like a bird on the wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free
Good Morning John

Ain't it great to see your future shining brighter
in the naked light of day?
Ain't it great to see your future shining brighter
than the naked light of day?
You maid it, son!
But I confess there was a time or two I thought that
I love you, John!
In the cold and holy darkness you were always shining brighter than a star.
God bless you, John!
For the love and joy you've given and the living inspiration that you are.
You've scared me, John!
'Cause you crossed so many borders into danger with a price upon your head.
They got you, John!
And it hurts to see so many friends, who ran along beside you lying dead.
I know you, John!
There ain't nothing you can't handle now,
'cause there ain't nothing bigger than your heart.
There ain't nothing you can't handle out there ain't
nothing bigger than your heart.
Keep shining, John!
Keep smiling, John!
For you owe it to the others and the dark and holy wonder that you are.
Hang in there, John!
It's a rocky role to glory, but the strangest and strongest will survive.
Keep smiling, John!
We'll both make it there tomorrow but today lets say
we're lucky we're alive.
We won't make it there tomorrow,
but today let's say we're lucky we're alive.
I'll see you John!
Though the best of good intentions have a way of gettin'
scattered by the wind.
I know you, John!
There ain't nothing you can't handle now,
'cause there ain't nothing bigger than your heart.
I'm leavin' John!
You can lose your mind and mem'ry but you ain't gonna
lose me as your friend.
I love you, John.
You can lose your mind or memory, but you'll never lose me as your friend.
Good morning, John!
(Good morning John...)
The lyrics of Kris Kristofferson's "Good Morning John" paint a poignant picture of a deep and unwavering connection between two individuals, John and the singer. The song begins with a sense of optimism and hope, celebrating John's bright future that shines even brighter than the light of day itself. The singer expresses pride in John's accomplishments, recognizing the challenges he has faced and overcome along the way.
The lyrics then take a heartfelt turn as the singer professes their love and admiration for John, describing him as a shining star in the darkness. There is a sense of reverence and gratitude for the love and inspiration that John brings into their life. The mention of divine blessings underscores the profound impact John has had on those around him.
As the song progresses, a note of concern and worry creeps in as John's daring and fearless nature is highlighted. The risks he takes and the dangers he faces are acknowledged, with the singer mourning the loss of friends who could not keep up with him. Despite the challenges, there is a sense of faith in John's resilience and inner strength, symbolized by the reference to the size of his heart.
The song ends with reassurance and a bittersweet farewell as the singer expresses their unwavering loyalty and friendship towards John. There is a recognition of the unpredictability of life and the transient nature of intentions, but a firm commitment to stand by John through thick and thin. The repetition of "Good morning, John" serves as a hopeful and comforting refrain, encapsulating the enduring bond between the singer and John, no matter what trials may come their way.

Thanks for posting this one Fabio. Kris is still a brilliant writer and performer. I'm going to see him again in June, in NYC in June. His songwriting has been an inspiration to me for over 40yrs. This song is new to me, but Kris always writes from his heart first.
