The Wild
Kristofer Åström Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

After all I've done
You just didn't think much of me
I got your note 'bout the sun
I'll try to get out more often

But I was just along for the ride
I tried to keep my hands inside
But you fed my curious side
Leaving me out in the wild
Wild
Wild

And I know it's your right
To think what you will about me
I connect with the night
I've never tried to ignore it

But I was just along for the ride
I tried to keep my hands inside
But you fed my curious side
Leaving me out in the wild
Wild
Wild

I tried with calling out your name
But your night is two weeks away, hey hey hey
I tried with calling out your name
But your night is two weeks away, hey hey hey
ah...

But I was just a - long for the ride
I tried to keep my hands inside
But you fed my curious side
Leaving me out in the wild
Wild
Wild
Wild
Wild
Wild
Wild

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kristofer Åström’s “The Wild” speak to the feeling of being left alone and isolated by someone you care about. The singer is trying to come to terms with the fact that no matter how much he has done or tried to impress this person, they do not seem to think much of him. He acknowledges that this person has the right to believe whatever they want about him but expresses that he finds solace in the night despite never being able to ignore it.

The singer then reveals that he was only along for the ride in their relationship and tried to keep his hands to himself, but this person fed his curious side, leaving him out in the wild. This line could refer to the idea that he was only interested in this person because they were fun and exciting, but they did not actually care about him.

The chorus repeats the line “leaving me out in the wild” several times, driving home the feeling of abandonment and loneliness that the singer is experiencing. The final lines of the song reveal that he has tried reaching out to this person, calling out their name, but they are not available for another two weeks. This line adds to the sense of isolation and the feeling that the singer is disconnected from those around him.
