Though his name is sometimes assumed to be a pseudonym due to its similarity to German composer Kurt Weill, it is in fact his birth name, as given by his parents Donna and Charles Vile.
Vile began his musical career in 2003 creating lo-fi home recordings with frequent collaborator Adam Granduciel. The duo subsequently formed the indie rock band The War on Drugs in 2005. Vile departed following the release of their debut studio album, Wagonwheel Blues, in 2008.
Vile's music has been likened to Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, and Tom Petty. His first album for Matador, titled Childish Prodigy was released in October 2009. Prior to signing with Matador, Vile released two albums, God Is Saying This To You and Constant Hitmaker, on Mexican Summer and Woodsist, respectively. He plays both solo shows as well as shows with a backing band called The Violators.
Smoke Ring For My Halo, released in March of 2011, is Kurt Vile's fourth album and second official release for Matador Records. Uncut placed the album at number 14 on its list of "Top 50 albums of 2011" and garnered Vile the iTunes #Rewind2011 Singer/Songwriter Album of the Year. Vile followed up the widely acclaimed album with the six-song EP release, So Outta Reach, in November of the same year. The EP was composed of tracks originating from the same sessions that birthed Smoke Ring for My Halo. So Outta Reach includes the single 'The Creature', acknowledged as one of Vile's best, and a driving rock cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Downbound Train'.
Baby’s Arms

In my baby's arms, in my baby's arms
And I got the hands to hold on to them
I get sick of just about everyone
And I hide in my baby's arms
Hide in my baby's arms
'Cause except for her, you know, as I've implied
I will never ever ever be alone
'Cause it's all in my baby's hands
Shiny, shiny secret stones
In my baby's hands
In my baby's hands
I get sick of just about everyone
Then I hide in my baby's arms
Shrink myself just like a Tom Thumb, and then I
Hide in my baby's hands
Hide in my baby's hands
'Cause except for her
There just ain't nothing to latch on to
Yeah, yeah, yeah
There has been but one true love
In my baby's arms
In my baby's arms
In my baby's arms
In my baby's arms
Yeah
That was sweet
I think I forgot some of it
Yeah, good job, good pull
I love that song (did you get it?)
It's a funny way to learn it, but yeah
Yeah? Cool
Alright, see you guys later
Thanks for having us
The lyrics of the song "Baby's Arms" by Kurt Vile bring forth the idea of an intense, undying love that can bring comfort and solace to a person's life. The singer refers to his "baby's arms" as the only true love he's ever had, and that he can always find refuge in those arms even when everything else seems to fail.
The singer talks about getting sick of everyone and everything else, but not his baby's arms. The baby's arms sound like a safe haven, a place where the singer can be himself without the pressures of the outside world. The singer finds peace and contentment being in those arms, and the hands of his baby represent the secrets of his happiness, the "shiny, shiny secret stones."
The lyrics echo the sentiment of finding love as the ultimate source of happiness, and the idea that the one true love can lift a person's spirit and make them feel invincible. The repetition of the phrase "in my baby's arms" reinforces the idea that the singer finds comfort in that place, and it's the only thing he needs to feel whole. The song's lyrics convey a sense of deep love, security, and contentment.
