Daydreamin'
Kurtis Blow Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Looking back through time in the corners of my mind
I see you standing here
Oh baby how I miss you
And how much I need to kiss you
Run my fingers through your hair
But then again it's just my imagination
Being close to you was such a sweet sensation
But then we had to have that terrible confrontation

Daydreamin' takes me where I want to be
Daydreamin' lets me have you here with me

Oh girl if you knew all that I've been going through
You'd have a change of heart
But come rain or shine you're foverer on my mind
Of my life you're the part
But then again,it's just my imagination
Being close to you was such a sweet sensation
But then we had to have that terrible confrontation

Daydreamin' takes me where I want to be
Daydreamin' lets me have you here with me

Daydreamin' and I'm thinkin' of you
You stole my heart and I belong to you
Daydreamin' and I'm thinkin' of you
You are the one and I will be true

D...D...D...D...Daydreamin'
D...D...D...D...Daydreamin'
D...D...D...D...Daydreamin'
D...D...D...D...Daydreamin'
You know I want you girl
You know I miss you girl
Come back, come back baby..oo-wee,be my lady
You know I miss you girl
You were my only world
Come back,come back honey
Make my day bright and sunny...yeah

Come back ...honey....

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Daydreamin' by Kurtis Blow tell a story of a man who is reminiscing about a past lover he had a confrontation with. He starts by saying that he can see her in his mind's eye and how much he misses her and wants to run his fingers through her hair. He then reveals that they had a terrible confrontation that ended their romantic relationship. The chorus of the song emphasizes how the man finds solace in daydreaming about the past lover and how it brings her closer to him.

The second verse describes how much the separation has affected the man and how he wishes the past lover could see the pain he's going through. Yet, he still thinks about her all the time, and she has a permanent place in his heart. The chorus repeats, emphasizing how daydreaming is the only way the man can be with her again. The song ends with the man pleading for her to come back, stating that she still holds a special place in his heart.

Daydreamin' is a poignant song with rich lyrics that express an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia, loss, and a burning yearning for what was lost. The chorus of the song is particularly memorable and has become iconic since the song's release in 1984.

Pave the way for so many artists. If I'm not mistaking, he was the first hip-hop artist to come out with a slow jam

I have always love this song.
When it first came out in the '80's, it wasn't that common for a rappers to just out right sing a song.
I am always glad he actually sung this song.
It shows his versatility and was definitely an inspiration when it comes to the nuances and drum breaks of Shanice Wilson's song 'I Love Your Smile.
It is always a nice mix of these 2 songs playing in my head.
I abandon hear one without the other.
Thank you for sharing.

They don't understand this. This is history. If your from NY in that era, you gotta have at least some memory of this. Puts you in a familiar frame of mind. In later years, Red used to spin this on Kiss. Classic!
