Born and raised in Melbourne, Minogue first achieved recognition starring in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, playing tomboy mechanic Charlene Robinson. She gained prominence as a recording artist in the late 1980s and released four bubblegum and dance-pop-influenced studio albums produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. By the early 1990s, she had amassed several top ten singles in the UK and Australia, including "I Should Be So Lucky", "The Loco-Motion", "Hand on Your Heart", and "Better the Devil You Know". Taking more creative control over her music, Minogue signed with Deconstruction Records in 1993 and released Kylie Minogue (1994) and Impossible Princess (1997), both of which received positive reviews. She returned to mainstream dance-oriented music with 2000's Light Years, including the number-one hits "Spinning Around" and "On a Night Like This". The follow-up, Fever (2001), was an international breakthrough for Minogue, becoming her best-selling album to date. Two of its singles, "Love at First Sight" and "In Your Eyes", became hits, but its lead single, "Can't Get You Out of My Head" became one of the most successful singles of the 2000s, selling over five million units.
Minogue continued reinventing her image and experimenting with a range of genres on her subsequent albums, which spawned successful singles such as "Slow", "2 Hearts", "All the Lovers", "Santa Baby", "Timebomb" and "Dancing". With her 2020 album DISCO, she became the first female artist to have a chart-topping album in the UK for five consecutive decades. Minogue made her film debut in The Delinquents (1989) and portrayed Cammy in Street Fighter (1994). She has also appeared in the films Moulin Rouge! (2001), Jack & Diane, Holy Motors (2012) and San Andreas (2015). In 2014, she appeared as a judge on the third series of The Voice UK and The Voice Australia. Her other ventures include product endorsements, children's books, fashion, and charitable work.
Minogue was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2008 New Year Honours for services to music. She was appointed by the French government as a Chevalier (knight) of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for her contribution to the enrichment of French culture. In 2005, while Minogue was on tour, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Health Science (D.H.Sc.) degree by Anglia Ruskin University in 2011 for her work in raising awareness for breast cancer. At the 2011 ARIA Music Awards, she was inducted by the Australian Recording Industry Association into the ARIA Hall of Fame. She was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2019 Australia Day Honours.

Another minute passes by
I'll wait for you
But this time I won't cry
Where are you now?
Are you with another love?
It's not the first time
You stood me up and let me down
I, I, I'm wondering why
I still love you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
I still want you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
Lights about town
Expect me just to hang around
And you never call
You just stand me up and let me down
I, I, I'm wondering why
I still love you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
I still want you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
(I, I, I, I)
All through the night
I wanted you to come around
I wait too long
I know you're gonna let me down
I, I, I'm wondering why
I still love you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
I still want you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
I still love you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
I still want you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
I still love you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
The lyrics to Kylie Minogue's song "Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi" tell the story of a woman who is waiting for a lover who never seems to show up. The song is sung in both English and French and is about the confusion and uncertainty that comes with being in love with someone who doesn't seem to reciprocate those feelings. The first verse sets the tone for the rest of the song by describing the rain falling down, and the minutes and hours passing by while the singer waits for her lover. She wonders where he is and if he's with someone else, and she's hurt by the fact that he's let her down before.
In the chorus, the singer expresses her confusion about why she still loves her absent lover. She repeats the phrase "Je ne sais pas pourquoi," which means "I don't know why" in French, emphasizing the fact that she doesn't understand her own feelings. She acknowledges that he's let her down in the past, but she still wants him, even though she knows he's going to disappoint her again. The second verse echoes the first, with the singer describing the loneliness of waiting for someone who never comes. The repetition of the phrase "I still love you, Je ne sais pas pourquoi" in the final chorus underscores the singer's confusion and heartache.

Rain falling down
The weather outside mirrors my mood
Another minute passes by
Time marches on, even though I'm stuck in the same place
I'll wait for you
I'm giving you another chance to show up
But this time I won't cry
I won't let you see my pain again
Where are you now?
I'm left wondering about your whereabouts
Are you with another love?
I suspect you might be seeing someone else
It's not the first time
This isn't the first time you've hurt me like this
You stood me up and let me down
You promised to be here but broke your word
I, I, I'm wondering why
I'm questioning the reasons behind my feelings
I still love you
My feelings for you haven't faded
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
I don't know why
I still want you
Despite everything, I still desire your presence
Lights about town
The city is still bustling despite my heartache
Expect me just to hang around
I'm supposed to be content with waiting indefinitely
And you never call
You don't bother to keep me updated
All through the night
I stayed up hoping you'd show up
I wanted you to come around
My desire for your presence hasn't diminished
I wait too long
My patience is wearing thin
I know you're gonna let me down
I'm no longer surprised by your disappointment
I still love you
My heart can't help but feel affection towards you
I still want you
I can't deny my attraction to you
Je ne sais pas pourquoi
I can't explain why
