The song was released as the first single in the summer of 1991 and was a top twenty hit in the United Kingdom, reaching number sixteen which ended Minogue's run of 13 consecutive UK top 10 hits. In Australia, with the more laid back Summer Breeze Mix as the main mix, it peaked at number ten, becoming Minogue's tenth single to chart within the top ten. The Summer Breeze Mix received a UK release on a one-sided limited edition 12" vinyl single which had an engraved autograph on the b-side, making it highly collectable for fans.
Word Is Out
Kylie Minogue Lyrics

Ooh yeah
Now word is out
The word is out
Innocence
Word is out
Over town
Word is out
Now the word is out
The word is out
[1:]
you're clinging 2 a lie
Still you hope 2 try
And save your face, ooh
It's a no-win situation
There ain't gonna be a saving grace
Because you're sticking 2 a story
It really makes no sense
No judge or jury could ignore the evidence
[CHORUS:]
Because the word is out
I can't go on believing in your innocence
Now the word is out (the word is out)
The word is out
You can't go on pretending
It's all over town
Now the word is out (the word is out)
[2:]
Ain't but one redeeming feature
So you may as well accept your fate
(Accept your fate), ooh
you can't wriggle out of this, it's gone 2 far
It's much 2 late (it's much 2 late)
But it's funny my suspicions lead me 2 the lie
From the friend of a so-called friend
I heard about your double life
[CHORUS:]
Ooh yeah
Because the word is out
Can't go on pretending
Innocence
The word is out
The word is out
Yeah
Over town
Now the word is out (the word is out)
It's all over town
[CHORUS:]
(repeat & fade)
The lyrics to "Word Is Out" by Kylie Minogue touch on the theme of betrayal and deception. The first verse is directed at someone who is clinging to a lie and hoping to save face. However, the singer recognizes that it is a no-win situation and there is no saving grace. The second verse implies that the person who is lying has been caught in a double life, and the singer's suspicions have led to the revelation of the truth. The chorus emphasizes that the word is out and the singer can no longer believe in the person's innocence. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, highlighting the fact that the truth is now widely known and cannot be ignored.
Overall, the lyrics suggest a sense of disappointment and betrayal. The singer had believed in the person's innocence, but the truth has shattered that belief. The theme of innocence is a recurring one, and the song seems to suggest that it is fragile and easily lost.

I was just thinking the same thing. I try not to comment too often. I purchased this album after getting Disco. I really enjoyed it. I'm shocked that some of this material was not familiar to US audiences. This definitely would have been a big hit on the RnB, Rap, and Gospel charts back in the day. Very surprising and good!
