The "classic lineup" of the group would reunite in 1999 and began recording new material. However, the group continued to change lineups and Guns eventually left to form the hard rock supergroup Brides of Destruction with Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe in 2002. L.A. Guns continued without Guns, bringing in guitarist Stacey Blades, however, following his decision to put Brides of Destruction on hiatus in 2006, Guns formed The Tracii Guns Band. The group's lineup consisted of former L.A. Guns members Black, Alexander as well as Jeremy Guns (though the lineup would eventually change), with the group eventually changing their name to L.A. Guns. Both groups continued to record and tour under the L.A. Guns moniker until 2012, when the Tracii Guns-led version of the group disbanded. Riley died in 2023.
L.A. Guns (feat. Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis) released a new single "Let You Down" on May 6, 2020. It was released as the first single from their then-upcoming fourteenth studio album Checkered Past, which was released on November 12, 2021, and featured producer Adam Hamilton on drums.
In May 2022, it was announced that Shawn Duncan had replaced Shane Fitzgibbon as their drummer. In the following month, guitarist Ace Von Johnson revealed that L.A. Guns had been working on new material for their next studio album. The resulting album, Black Diamonds, was released on April 14, 2023.
High on You

I never want to leave, baby
If I could rule the night, baby
I'd turn it into white
There wouldn't ?
[Chorus:]
I'm getting high on you
I'm getting high on you
High on you
I like your rugged cross, baby
I don't pray in churches, baby
I got nowhere to worship, baby
Because it isn't him
I don't need a ? man
[Chorus]
Terrorist in my heart
Tearin' it all apart
Terrorist in my heart
Tearin' it all apart
I love the way you feel, baby
The mornin' startin' drunk, baby
Drinking of your soul, baby
And everything I know
Digs the way your body glows
[Chorus]
I'm getting high on you
I'm getting high on you
I'm getting high on you
I'm getting high
Corrupting in the air
I really need you
You got two play rides
I really love them
My we're getting high
Are we getting high
The lyrics of L.A. Guns's song "High on You" convey a sense of passion and obsession for a lover, through the use of religious references and metaphorical language. The song starts with the singer admiring the wooden door of their lover's place and expressing a desire to never leave. The subsequent lyrics indicate a sense of powerlessness, as the singer wishes they could "rule the night" and turn it into white for their lover, but acknowledges their limitations. The chorus is a repeating affirmation of the singer "getting high" on their lover, which can be interpreted as being consumed by their love and emotions.
In the second verse, the religious references become more apparent as the singer mentions a rugged cross but professes not to pray in churches and has no place to worship. The line "it isn't him" suggests a possible failure in finding spiritual fulfillment with a traditional religion, but the singer still doesn't need a holy man to feel complete. The following lines depict a struggle within the singer's heart, where a "terrorist" tears it all apart, possibly referring to the tumultuous impact of their love. The final verse further emphasizes the physicality of the relationship, with the singer loving the feeling of their lover and drinking off their soul. The last line gives a sense of elation and desire, questioning if they are getting high on each other.
Overall, the song depicts a powerful and all-consuming love that is intertwined with religious undertones and a sense of addiction.
