Ride Like The Wind
L.A Band Lyrics

They don't ride like me, no no no no They don't ride like me, just a waste of your time, draining your energy
Do yourself a favor, I got the remedy Let's get away and make a play
They don't ride like me, no no no no They don't ride like me, just a waste of your time, draining your energy
Do yourself a favor, I got the remedy Let's get away and make a play

Once again you're at home stressing Left you alone, mind games guessing
Check your phone, Google Maps location Been holding it down, now you out of patience
You been standing ten times But he got you staring through these windows
Wondering if gon' be home tonight You ain't bargain for this type of life this here ain't right
Think he chasing bag, he can cause some treasure
Wouldn't do the math so he couldn't measure Brody think I'm made but he didn't measure
Let me in the seat, I would never let her No no never
Lady I know that you're fed up, fed up Still you need to hold your head up, head up

Yeah yeah yeah I just wanna be next up
They don't ride like me, no no no no They don't ride like me, just a waste of your time, draining your energy
Do yourself a favor, I got the remedy Let's get away and make a play
They don't ride like me, no no no no They don't ride like me, just a waste of your time, draining your energy

Do yourself a favor, I got the remedy Let's get away and make a play
Hey girl it's obvious I'm perking your interest so what you playing for
And baby life is not promises, sojust enjoy the ride Don't be surprised you let down your hair and start to feel the breeze
It's summertime here in Cali, let's go to Venice Beach I'm drama free if you haven't noticed, I'm just a different breed

I'm not like none of these fellas that you compare me to Trying to choose between me and him, so tell me what's the move
I got you smiling and giggling, I got the remedy It's pointless to be walking around stressing you not enjoying life

Looks like the odds in your favor, go ahead and roll them dice Think it twice, it just takes a second for chance to pass you by
Go ahead and hop in this hooptie like it's a Bentley truck

That's a very admirable cover and certainly the BEST ONE I've ever heard! You guys seem to have really studied the recording. ย

The conga pattern at the front differs from Lenny's and it's a little distracting because I've heard it the same way on the intro for 43 years.ย

The drums...well I gotta say THANK YOU for at least making note of the the transitional fills and really sticking to what I played. A few things are not exact. Some of that is probably simply an audible situation where it wouldn't be discernible and others are just individual drumming habits that differ and that feel natural to you. The drummer is a few decades younger than I am. The left hand would never have been used by me on the hi hat in place of a regular crash situation. I'm too old school for that. hahah. So that is a regular crash and it is like the intro...not supported by the kick which plays on the downbeat...1. I know because it was very hard for me to do that when we first changed the feel. The original bass drum patter was 1 and 3 only. The one exception to that rule is in the fill in the outro, where the hi hat is "barked" with the left hand.ย
R L R Lfeup R L R Lfeup.ย

The bass drum pattern has some inconsistencies as well. There is no pick up after the 2 on the snare of the refrain. It's not a triplet. It's just 2 hits. :-) The next one after Go...is a triplet with the accent on the second note. The hi hat pattern throughout the verses is triplets...not 8ths with a pickup. The ride cymbal in the choruses and the end is quarter notes on the bell with just a hint of the 8ths between. But seriously, I've heard some of the top call players in the country butcher this with Chris, and you did an outstanding job! I'm honored that someone would finally actually take the time to listen to what I played and cut it tit for tat for the most part. The main thing is the overall verve and swing of what I created. You're right in that.ย

ย Everyone is so top notch here. The vocalist...I mean...unless you have a similar timbre and KNOW Chris personally...I don't think anyone could've copped that any better. You got his inflections and nuances pretty down pat. A few trail offs and things that aren't exactly him but I don't know how close your were trying to get. If you didn't think about it...you wouldn't go ...wait a minute. You came in singing and it distract me from listening to anything else for accuracy...so...that's huge. Even the backing McDonald part...masked slightly but done so well you wouldn't flinch. Very very smooth and well done both of you!

The guitarist pretty much nails Chris's solo note for note. That was played on a 69 Les Paul Gold top with PAF's through a Mark I Boogie. The tone you got was pretty similar. A little different. Is that an Ej strat?ย
I know much ado has made about that solo in recent times...Chris was not a virtuoso guitarist. He's a very unique lead player. He was a ROCK guitarist. His biggest influence was Ritchie Blackmore. We were a bar band...and Chris wrote and sang songs...so we didn't come up as "studio" players...Christopher Cross was birthed from the Texas bar scene, where we made our living playing covers basically. ย So you kind of have to think like a Texas rock player.

The synths, the horns, the vocals...I can't even tell it's not the record...insane.

This was sent to me by a friend and I just wanted to say hello and tell you that it was a superb job! TT
