"Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world" -- This still hits me till this day, even after watching this speech for like 10 times whenever I feel low or off track. I used to think that acceptance is all you need when I was a child, probably upto college. I found this video around my 2nd year, and it changed me in such ways I can't explain. This is to the guy, whom I have never met and only watched in screens, thank you Jim! He inspires youth to be conscious, which is rare from an actor of his scale.

Incredibly profound....I have lived in fear my whole life and now that I am in my last quarter, I find I am filled with regret. Jim clearly experiences life further than most ppl can. He sees so far outside the box that ppl call him crazy but he makes perfect sense... His speech really hits home for me. There is so much out here for us as humans to experience. To not get stuck in a rut in this life. He saying, to keep moving towards what you love. Even if it seems like its out of reach for you. @Emma James it looks like he was given an honorary degree from an Indian university. Honorary degrees are awarded to famous people, so the university can list them as alumnae (graduates.) The famous person is not required to have attended the lectures, because he/she is further ahead in the field of the degree than actual graduates and likely too famous to mix with the masses on a course plus no time as they work. The famous person is contacted towards the end of the course to see if they will « accept » the degree. So this is Jim C’s acceptance speech.

I saw this speech just before I was about to not apply for a space tech high school. I wanted to go there but was terrified of leaving my parents, friends and home town and moving about 1000 miles away from home. Not to mention that I was certain I was going to be the dumbest pupil at that school if I did get in. Then I heard this speech and realised that at least I had to try, so I applied. Now about 6 years later I think that's the best decision I've made so far in my life, and I would have missed it all if it wasn't for what Jim Carrey says in this video. this is so true! since I decided to stand up, speak up, demand respect and be heard at work, trying to follow my dream and stopping bullying at same time I noticed a lot of enemies and opposition than when I just was trying to be accepted by others and get on pleasing everyone but me . Michael Muryn Comedians in general, I think, are smart. But I don't mean to make a comparison between comedic and dramatic actors. I think they each have their strengths and weaknesses. I do prefer, however, listening to the words of comedians because they strike me as people who always see the world in a different light. I can almost put them in the same league as the poets and philosophers. George Carlin, Louis C.K., and Woody Allen are some of the best examples that come to mind. Their thoughts are deep but they express it so cleverly that you're gonna laugh until the ideas behind them make you think, or sometimes, it's the other way around.

I just found this one again! I think I watched this video a hundred times many years back and it changed me into what I am today. I loved the story about his farther failing in what he didn’t want do because it holds some truth to it. We need to believe in what we want to do and dream bigger than ever. I needed the inspiration, and it couldn’t have come from a better kind of person, he’s so on my level. I love life, laughing & good souls. Im at a point of my life where I’m really hurting & I know it will get better , but human me is suffering in sadness. Time will heal, it’s the waiting that is painful. Jim Is my kind of human✌️❤️🙂

The man has figured it all out through pain, confusion, and an awesome talent. Once again he has shared total enlightenment for the masses. All of the messages in here are the experiences of a thousand years for the rest of us. Once again I find myself thanking Jim Carrey for spiritual entertainment as I did 40 years ago. This man could and probably should lead us all. For at least the one hundredth time in my life and once again thanks for the enlightenment Jim.

I've returned to this video a few times since 2016 when I first stumbled on it. Each time I have a deeper appreciation and understanding for what Jim Carrey is saying. I hope in another 5 years I'll come back to this video, this comment laughing about how much I thought I knew in 2021.

Such a great speech, Jim is really a great inspiration , he revealed hidden truths of life from the depths of his awareness ♡. "I used to thin JC is all that i was, just a flickering light, a dancing shadow, the great nothing masquereding as something you can name, seeking shelter in caves and fox holes, dogout hastily , an archer searching for his target in the mirror, wounded only by my own arrows, begging to be enslaved, pleading for my chains, blinded by longing and tripping over paradise.

I've always been a huge Jim Carrey fan but I just gained an entire new level of respect for him. What an incredible and inspirational speech.

Wow. Really good speech. Hope I can keep this positive feeling going after I watch this. I'm one of those people who loose it very quickly. Someone like me, feels it's way easier to be negative rather than being positive. In trying my best to fix that. Been writing down what I want in this life each day and trying to feel as though it's already happened. Not as easy as it sounds.

Never really been a massive fan of Jim Carey but that speech has just changed my perception of him. Very deep, very profound, very powerful. As an ex British soldier I've heard some truly awe inspiring speeches from some truly awe inspiring leaders and I'd put this up there with them!
