Stoned Love
LIVING ROOM - The Supremes Lyrics

Stoned love
Stoned love, oh yeah

A love for each other will bring fighting to an end
Forgiving one another, time after time doubt creeps in
But like the sun lights up the sky with a message from above
Oh yeah, I find no other greater symbol of love
Yeah, don't ya hear the wind blowing?
Stoned love, oh yeah
I tell ya I ain't got no other
Stoned love
Oh yeah

And life is so short, put the present time at hand
Oh yeah, and if you're young at heart, rise up and take your stand
And to the man on whose shoulder the world must depend
I pray for peace and love, amen

Oh, can't ya feel it?
Stoned love
I tell ya I ain't got no other
Stoned love
Oh yeah

If the war 'tween our nations passed, oh yeah
Will the love 'tween our brothers and sisters last?
On and on and on and on and

Don't you hear the wind blowing?
Stoned love
Oh yeah
I tell ya I ain't got no other, whoo, whoo
Stoned love
Can't ya, can't ya, can't ya, can't ya, can't ya feel it?
Whoo, whoo, stoned love
Oh yeah stoned, stoned, stoned, stoned

Stoned love

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Whoo, whoo, stoned love, oh yeah...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Stoned Love" by The Supremes convey a message of love, unity, and hope. The opening line suggests that love between people has the power to bring an end to conflicts and fighting. The line "Forgiving one another, time after time doubt creeps in" acknowledges that doubt and disagreements may arise within relationships, but emphasizes the importance of forgiveness and the willingness to overcome these obstacles.

The lyrics then go on to describe love as a symbol that lights up the sky, indicating its significance and transformative power. The repeated refrain of "Stoned love, oh yeah" serves as both a declaration and an affirmation of this love.

The song also touches on the brevity of life, urging listeners to make the most of the present moment. It encourages those who are young at heart to rise up and take a stand, indicating that love is not limited by age but has the potential to change the world.

The singer addresses a figure of authority, possibly a political leader, wishing for peace and love to prevail. The final verse raises the question of whether love can endure beyond the resolution of conflicts between nations, emphasizing the importance of love among individuals in maintaining lasting harmony.

I must have heard this song a gazzillion times and it's still giving me goosebumps. I LOVE Jean Terrell's vocal prowess - so stylish and sophisticated.

They were really ahead of their time with that fabulous performance. In those days, most girl groups were still doing their more subdued girly-girl performances, but Jean rocks here years ahead of performers today! I just wish Lynda and Mary were given more to do, and louder, with their live vocal arrangements here. Thank you for helping this to be reposted!

I love that they still performed this song 3 years after it came out. One of my favorites!

Lynda Laurence is a FABULOUS SUPREME with a great voice. She is also very nice. Not stuffy like Jean and unpredictable like Mary. YOU ROCK IT LYNDA.

My girls wearing my favourite gowns - these looked STUNNING onstage when I first saw J/L/M in them in '72 at the Odeon Theatre, Birmingham. Jean and Lynda gave a great new sound to the Supremes.
