With a prestigious slot at SXSW and two extensive US tours already under their belts this year, Laveda are now gearing up to release their second studio album ‘A Place We Grew Up In’ via Papercup Music in Spring 2023.
Featuring earlier singles including the sun-drenched “Surprise”, antsy and ethereal “F***”and slacker-tinted “Troy Creeps”, almost all of the songs on ‘A Place You Grew Up In’ were written between late March 2020 and summer 2021, before being recorded by the band while staying on a ranch just outside of Los Angeles. Produced by Dylan Herman (Beck, Pynkie), the album sees duo Ali Genevich (vocals/guitar) and Jake Brooks (vocals/guitar/synths) joined by Laveda’s full live band, including Dan Carr (bass) and Joe Taruone (drums).

If Only
LaVeda Lyrics

I know it's you think I'll ignore
While the rest of them are falling
Love isn't something that I need anymore
If only you would go but I won't stop calling
If only you could know this door won't open
If only you stayed home I'll be waiting for it
So hear I am waiting standing at the door
It's just another night but there's something else in store
While you were out there falling
I was hoping that you wanted me the most
If only you would go but I won't stop calling
If only you could know this door won't open
If only you stayed home I'll be waiting for it
If only you said no
If only you would go but I won't stop calling
If only you could know this door won't open
If only you stayed home I'll be waiting for it
If only you said no
The lyrics of LaVeda's song "If Only" describe the singer waiting for someone who has hurt her in the past to return, but at the same time, indicating that she has moved on and doesn't need their love anymore. She hears the person standing at the door, but she will not open it. She wishes that they would leave, but she won't stop calling. She also wishes that they knew that the door would not open, and that she would be waiting for them if they had said no.
The lyrics seem to imply that the singer has been hurt by the person in the past and does not want to give them another chance. However, the chorus also indicates that she still has feelings for the person and is waiting for them. This conflict between wanting to move on and feeling drawn to the person is expressed through the repetition of the chorus.
The use of the conditional "if only" in the song title and throughout the lyrics indicates regret and longing for things that could have happened differently. The singer expresses a desire for the person to have made different choices in the past, but at the same time, she recognizes that she has made her own choices and has moved on.

Beautiful melody with brilliant, understated, musical backing swirling around behind it. Really difficult to pick out a favourite track on What Happens After isn’t it - all great.

There aren't many albums where every track is excellent. "What Happens After" is one of them, which puts it in very esteemed company indeed. It can be hard to have a favourite track when an album is so good. For me, this track probably just slightly stands above the others. But wait, then there's Dream.Sleep..., Ghost, Better Now, Blue Beach... A strong contender for album of the year.

Dont know why but this song elicits the emotions that come with unrequited love. A feeling so raw and real to me since I 1st heard of this song
