The words of Lacrimosa's song "Der Kelch des Lebens" are a combination of angst, despair and yearning. The song talks about the goblet of life being touch only for a short moment, and how the drink from this goblet has poisoned the singer's throat. The effects of the drink have disintegrated the body and flesh and drained the soul empty, leaving the person bitterly wounded in the realm of yearning. This portrays a sense of longing, an unmet desire that causes the singer significant pain.
In the second stanza, the song seems to take a melancholic turn where the singer is abandoned and discarded. However, the realization that he is human and can feel gives him strength. The person wishes to find solace by kneeling at the foot of a mountain and blessing the sea with words. The person does not know what led him or how he got here, but he will follow the dream until the end, even if it takes him into the glowing fire.
