It's fading slowly
Feel it while you can
But don't act like you know me
Forgive all my sins
Wear them all like trophies
Work as hard as I can
So you don't own me
Until I feel better
Just say goodbye
See you never
All my life
So much better alone
Alone
So feel me
Don't kill me
So feel me
Don't kill me
You deserve the world
Even if it all burns down
What's it really worth
If you never try?
I deserve the world
Even if it all burns down
What's it really worth
We're all gonna die
All I've got is my skin
It's fading slowly
Feel it while you can
But don't act like you know me
Forgive all my sins
Wear them all like trophies
Work as hard as I can
So you don't own me
Can't waste my time
Until I feel better
Just say goodbye
See you never
All my life
So much better alone
Alone
So feel me
Don't kill me
So feel me
Don't kill me
The song "Skin" by Lael is a powerful anthem about self-acceptance and the struggle to be truly understood. The opening line "All I've got is my skin, it's fading slowly" immediately sets the tone for the song, highlighting the fragility and impermanence of our physical selves. Lael encourages her audience to appreciate their own skin and bodies while they still have them, at the same time warning against presuming to know someone just based on their exterior appearance.
The subsequent lines "Forgive all my sins, wear them all like trophies" speaks to the idea that we should own our mistakes and flaws, rather than try to hide them. She urges us to work hard to resist the pressure to conform to others' expectations and control. This is forcefully expressed in the line "So you don't own me", which suggests a longing for personal autonomy and the desire to live life according to one's own terms.
The second half of the song repeats the opening verse, emphasizing the message that we should live life on our own terms without allowing others to define us. In the chorus, Lael acknowledges both her own worth and the inherent value of every individual, regardless of their flaws.
Overall, "Skin" is a thought-provoking and emotionally charged song that encourages listeners to embrace their inner selves and reject societal pressures and judgments.

this is the rawest song i ever wrote. i didn't put any autotune or bells & whistles on the track. i wanted to preserve the moment in its purest state, imperfections and all. every time i hear this song, i remember how i felt at that moment, and i feel like the way i expressed myself could help others feel heard. this is going to be a song that isn't for everybody, but the people who feel it, feel it. if you're one of those people, let me know.

I can literally relate to all of the songs in this album. Especially skin, bully, garbage bag, remember me and no place like home. Literally all of them. I suffer from BPD and experience severe episodes and almost always feel that I’m misheard and misunderstood by the society and the loved ones. Even though there is no one around, I can feel through your songs so much support. I’ve been your supporter since 2018 and own your I think first merch called “all rappers go to heaven”. We’ve spoken with you on occasions too and I love you for that. I am so fucking proud of what you’ve become I just want you to keep going. Seeing you shining gives me joy. Much love to you and your loved ones.
