Frontwoman and gothic icon Lahannya became first known as a solo artist with the release of her debut EP “Drowning”, drawing comparisons to the likes of Throwing Muses and Cocteau Twins. She soon became a sought-after guest vocalist, appearing on releases by Soman, Combichrist, Greenhaus and more recently ASP to name but a few.
In 2005 Lahannya began her collaboration with Lutz Demmler with whom she recorded her debut album “Shotgun Reality”, an unconventional marriage of alternative rock and dark electro. Lutz also became part of the live line-up, which was completed with the addition of Belle on drums and Chris Milden on guitar. The glamorous Anglo-German quartet have been touring extensively ever since with artists such as Emilie Autumn, ASP and Moon Kana.
In spring 2008 Lahannya released their follow-up EP “Welcome To The Underground”, which marked the beginning of a new era for the band: not only had their sound evolved into industrial rock infused with plenty of metal attitude, thematically it introduced the world of the Underground, a haven for misfits and nonconformists ostracised from the surveillance society that rules with an iron fist overground.
This brave new Britain and its opposition from the Underground will continue to be the setting for Lahannya’s second album “Defiance”, which is going to be the band’s darkest and most aggressive sounding release to date. “Defiance” will be released in October 2009 on Kabuki.

Never Enough
Lahannya Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To travel on the brink
Of the values I uphold
And still believe in
In the name of my crusade
I sacrificed my pride
To continue the charade
Why is it never enough
Why do you bleed my soul
Still not satisfied
Now that you’ve taken all
Never before did I plead
You got me on my knees
Caught in your embrace
Till you let go of me
You’ve succeeded where I failed
Using methods I abhor
Since blind violence is hailed
As tool of first resort
I’m not afraid to bear my cross
Face the burden of betrayal
To regain what I have lost
I have to lose my way
Can I hide my secret intentions
Can I deny who I am
How much longer
Can I keep on pretending
To wear the mantle of someone
That I know I’m not
The lyrics of Lahannya's "Never Enough" explore themes of personal sacrifice, betrayal, and the question of whether holding to one's values is worth it when they seem to be in opposition to others' desires. The singer, who has made a choice to travel on the brink of their values, portrays themselves as sacrificing their pride and continuing a charade, presumably to serve a greater cause or crusade. However, they feel that their efforts are not enough, and that whoever they are trying to please is still bleeding their soul and taking more from them. The chorus echoes this sentiment, asking why it's never enough, and questioning the satisfaction of the person or people they are trying to please.
The second verse takes a darker turn as the singer reveals that they have been caught in the embrace of someone who has succeeded where they failed, using methods that they abhor. Blind violence is hailed as the tool of first resort, suggesting that the singer's nemesis is willing to go to any length to achieve their goals. However, the singer is not afraid to bear their cross and face the burden of betrayal in order to regain what they have lost, even if it means losing their way. The bridge seems to question whether the singer can continue to hide their secret intentions and deny who they truly are, or if they will be forced to confront their true self and wear the mantle of someone they know they're not.
Overall, "Never Enough" is a powerful and introspective song that raises important questions about the cost of sticking to one's values and the personal sacrifices that must sometimes be made in the name of a greater cause.

I made a choice not long
I recently decided
To travel on the brink
To live on the edge
Of the values I uphold
Of my personal beliefs
And still believe in
That I still hold dear
In the name of my crusade
For the sake of my mission
I sacrificed my pride
I gave up my dignity
To continue the charade
To keep up the act
While bide my time
While waiting for my chance
Why is it never enough
Why can't you be satisfied
Why do you bleed my soul
Why do you drain me emotionally
Still not satisfied
You're not content yet
Now that you’ve taken all
Now that you've gotten everything you wanted
Never before did I plead
I never begged before
You got me on my knees
You brought me down low
Caught in your embrace
Trapped in your hold
Till you let go of me
Until you released me
You’ve succeeded where I failed
You achieved what I couldn't
Using methods I abhor
Using tactics I hate
Since blind violence is hailed
Because people celebrate mindless aggression
As tool of first resort
As a primary means of achieving their goals
I’m not afraid to bear my cross
I'm willing to accept my burden
Face the burden of betrayal
Endure the pain of being betrayed
To regain what I have lost
To recover what I once had
I have to lose my way
I have to stray from my path
Can I hide my secret intentions
Can I keep my ulterior motives hidden
Can I deny who I am
Can I refuse to acknowledge my true self
How much longer
For how much more time
Can I keep on pretending
Can I continue to fake it
To wear the mantle of someone
To don the persona of another
That I know I’m not
That I'm aware isn't who I truly am
