The Good Life
Lambchop Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I’m not the kind of man
To live comfortably
Just give it some time
And you’ll see

And I’d like to show you
How wrong you can be
'Cause the good life is
Is wasted on me

Together there’s nothing
That cannot be fetched
Or haven’t you noticed this yet

Some friends gone forever
And sometimes our pets
And then there’s that thing with the rest of the world
Rob from always on the run is so bad and copy paste is a sin
Just like the hound dog
That begged for his bone
And I won’t be going there soon

I’m just as guilty
As guilty can be

'Cause the good life is
Is wasted on me

Overall Meaning

In Lambchop’s “The Good Life,” the singer starts off by expressing that he is not the kind of person who can live comfortably. He thinks that it will take some time for people to see that he is not someone who can be content with a comfortable life. He goes on to say that he would like to show people how wrong they can be about him. He believes that the good life, a life of luxury and ease, is wasted on him.

The singer then talks about how being together with someone means that everything can be achieved. He points out that nothing is out of reach as long as there’s someone around to help. However, he also talks about the painful experiences of losing friends and pets, as well as the tragedies that happen all over the world. He references a person called Rob who does wrong by running away, and also implies that copying someone else's work is not right. The singer compares himself to a hound dog that begged for his bones and insists that he will not be going where that dog went anytime soon. He ends the song by admitting guilt in finding the good life as wasted on him.

The lyrics of the song suggest that the good life is not for everyone. Different people have peculiarities and preferences, and the good life may not be designed for them. The singer seems to value his independence and the struggles that come with it, rather than being wealthy and comfortable like some people would prefer.

I'll be the first to comment that this is one of the most reserved and depressing songs I've heard. It's not maudlin or dramatic. It is a portrait of a man who knows himself and his experiences to be self-defeating. It's very cathartic, and I have shed more tears to this song than I'd like to admit. Bravo

I’d love to meet the one person that “thumbs downed” this track. What a study of idiocy it would provide for science.
