Candy Necklace
Lana Del Rey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

White fire, cinnamon on my teeth
And I'm sittin' at the stoplight northern town
I feel lucky
I drive somewhere out of range, I don't know where
White noise coming out of my brain
Turns off for nothing

Rockefella, my umbrella
God, I love you, baby
Storyteller, us forever
Is my favorite song

You've been actin' pretty restless
Dancin' like the young and restless
And I'm obsessed with it
Candy necklaces
You've been actin' pretty reckless
Dancin' like the young and restless
And I'm obsessed with this
All his candy necklaces

Sittin' on the sofa, feelin' super suicidal
Hate to say the word, but, baby, hand on the Bible I do
Feel like it's you, the one who's bringing me down
Thought that we were cool and we were kickin' it like Tribe Called Quest
You the best, but, baby, you've been bringing me down
I can see it now

Rockafella, my umbrella
God, I love you, baby
Fortune teller, favorite ever
That's the story of us

You've been actin' pretty restless
Dancin' like the young and reckless
And I'm obsessed with this
Candy necklaces
I think that we should address this
Actin' like the young and restless
I'm obsessed with this
All his candy necklaces

We've been actin' pretty restless
Dancin' like the young and restless
I'm obsessed with this
Candy necklaces

Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces (I'm obsessed with this)
Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces ('cause I'm obsessed with this)
Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces

Candy necklaces
Candy necklaces, oh

Overall Meaning

The song "Candy Necklace" by Lana Del Rey [feat. Jon Batiste] talks about feelings of restlessness and obsession. The opening lines describe a feeling of elation and luck, as she drives out of town without a particular destination in mind. The sound of white noise in her mind is an indication of chaos and confusion, which she seems to find comforting. The next few lines suggest a deep sense of love and admiration for someone (Rockefeller) and describes this person as a storyteller, indicating that they connect on a deeper level. The line "all his candy necklaces" is repeated throughout the song, indicating an obsession with this person and their accessories.

The second half of the song takes a darker turn, with Lana Del Rey singing about feeling suicidal and needing reassurance from the person she loves. Despite calling them the best, she feels like they are bringing her down. The repetition of "candy necklaces" in this section of the song could be seen as a way to distract from her darker thoughts and bring the focus back to the obsession with this person.

Overall, "Candy Necklace" is a song that explores the complex emotions of love, obsession, and desperation. It is a reminder that love can both lift us up and bring us down, and that relationships can be both beautiful and challenging at the same time.

She basically shows how everything's fake in Hollywood but you don't have to become the fake version of yourself or let yourself be bought by "candy necklaces" which seems to be a metaphor about stars being offered prestigious, glamorous things in exchange for their souls and eventually they lose themselves so she's showing us the behind the scenes because that's what matters. The whole process of making art is just as important if not more important than the result which could've easily been a music video like the others where we assume that everything that we see is actually what's happening when really a man's rocking the truck to make it look like she's actually on the road etc. It's brilliant.

@marenaavramova4277

That's a great observation

@haifamohammed7897

I thought the exact same thing but couldn’t articulate it with words like you have just beautifully did!

Oh thank you. Makes sense after A&W especially. I was wondering why she just didn't put out a normal music video like I was expecting 🍬📿
