And If It's True
Langhorne Slim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Alone as can be
I was alone
But I was not lonely
And if its true
Mama, what you got to say to me?
Girl, if it is true
Well
How long you been spitting them lies?
I know it's hard to
I suspect that you had it twice
I was alone when I heard a knock upon my door
Girl, it was a ringing from my phone
I knew it was you, coming back for more
Girl, if it is true
Mama, what you go to say to me
Said if it is true
Well now I'm about to set ya free
I have not been smitten
Since the day you left
Well them love letters you have written
They scare me half to death.
The song "And If It's True" by Langhorne Slim is a beautiful expression of the feeling of being alone and not feeling lonely. The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song where the singer emphasizes his state of being alone but not necessarily feeling lonely. This phrase gives the impression that he is living his life on his own terms and doesn't necessarily need anyone to complete him. The chorus of the song, "And if it's true Mama, what you got to say to me? Girl if it is true, well now I'm about to set you free" talks about the singer's perception of a girl he seems to have been involved with. Throughout the rest of the song, it becomes apparent that this girl has lied to him and he has been hurt by her actions. However, the singer almost releases her from the hurt she has caused him by lovingly setting her free instead of seeking vengeance.
The song has an upbeat tempo and melody that creates a harmonious vibe while still carrying a heaviness in its message. Langhorne Slim's voice is captivating and moves the listener, taking them on a journey of emotion through the ups and downs of the lyrics. The honesty of the words is what makes this song relatable to anyone who has been hurt by love.
