Just A Dream
Langhorne Slim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Birds were barking in the trees
Maybe I’m just scared to fly
Maybe it was just a dream
I was tied down to the tracks
Well, it's hard there to relax
Maybe I’m just scared to die
This town is far too small
For a restless guy like me
Maybe I’m just scared to try
Maybe it was just a dream
Maybe it was just a dream
Maybe it was just a dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream
Maybe it was just a dream, dream, dream, dream, dream, dream
Maybe it was just a dream
The lyrics to Langhorne Slim's song "Just a Dream" are about a narrator who wakes up from a scary dream and is left wondering if it was just a dream or if it represents something deeper in his subconscious. When he woke up from the dream, he heard birds barking in the trees and he starts to doubt his ability to fly, suggesting a deep-seated fear of the unknown. He then sings about being tied to the tracks, a symbol of being stuck and unable to move forward in life, which could represent his fear of death. The chorus repeats the phrase "maybe it was just a dream" multiple times, which reinforces the idea that the singer is unsure and has unresolved fears and anxieties.
The next verse talks about how the singer feels about his current situation. He describes his town as "far too small" for a restless guy like him, suggesting that he feels trapped and wants something more. He may also be too scared to try something new, which is why he's stuck where he is. The song ends with the chorus repeating "maybe it was just a dream" one last time, leaving the meaning of the lyrics ambiguous and open to interpretation.
