Christmas
Language of Flowers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
If there's nothing to go on for.
I've been hurt so many times,
I don't want to remember.
The sacrifice you can't make,
All your words, they fall like snow.
Christmas
All your words, they fall like snow.
Christmas
It's so cold tonight,
I know I'll die in your embrace,
Let the snow come cover me,
And Christmas say it's over.
[Repeat x3]
The sacrifice you can't make,
All your words, they fall like snow.
Christmas
The promises you can't break,
All your words, they fall like snow.
Christmas
The lyrics of "Christmas" by Language of Flowers depict the pain and darkness that one can feel during the holiday season. The song begins with the singer admitting that they cannot bear to continue if there is nothing to live for. The pain they have experienced in the past has left them wounded and they do not want to revisit those memories. The chorus reveals the reason behind their feelings of despair- broken promises that have been made to them, that have fallen like snow. The imagery of snow falling is traditionally associated with Christmas and winter, but here it represents the lies and empty words that have been given to the singer by someone they trusted.
In the second verse, the singer describes the coldness of the night, both literally and emotionally. They feel like they will die in the embrace of the person they are with, as if the weight of their broken promises is too much to bear. The snow that covers them is a metaphor for the end of the relationship, with Christmas representing the time of year when endings often seem more poignant.
Overall, Language of Flowers’s “Christmas” is a powerful song that reminds us that the holiday season is not always a happy time for everyone. It speaks to the deeper emotions and struggles that many people experience during this time of year, and conveys a sense of loss and pain that is often overlooked in the standard holiday fare.
