While continuing to front his seven-piece band Farrow, Lanks is a mature new side project that has allowed him to play freely with traditional folk storytelling in the modern framework of electronic music; taking parts from Radiohead’s intricate grooves, Bon Iver’s vocal layering and Jamie XX’s famed dead space.
His debut EP is a collection of songs that rises and falls in pictures and words, a project that combines cinematic soundscapes with electronic beats and evocative vocal narratives.
Although Lanks is a solo venture, with the 24-year-old writing, performing and recording the EP using synthesizers, guitars, samples and flutes over an intensive three month period, the live sets expand to include three other band members.
Lanks debut EP is available digitally on Bandcamp and iTunes.

A hollow figure casting shapes by the door
Your thoughts are innocent but I wanted more
You gave a little but I needed your all
I don't know why you didn't stay here tonight
You don't call home here sharing in mine
Just a short stay, a few days to a month
Our bodies were intimate, your mind was lost
I don't get it, why you wouldn't stay
It's easy love, when you don't stay away
You call me up, every other day
It's up to you
I don't get it, why you wouldn't stay
It's easy love, when you don't stay away
You call me up, every other day
It's up to you
Our love is going
In circles again
Believe me I said it
Enough is not enough you don't get it
Our love is going
In circles again
Our love is going
In circles again
Believe me I said it
Enough is not enough you don't get it
Our love is going
In circles again
Vacant sounds on the street as I'm clicking my jaw
The soundtrack to a lonely boy
I know I said that I wouldn't call
But your hesitation makes me want you some more
There's just some lingering doubts in my mind
You're fresh on my pillow but a ghost in the night
Just a short stay, drunk games, then you're gone
Your body is distant, your mind a lock
I don't get it, why you wouldn't stay
It's easy love, when you don't stay away
You call me up, every other day
It's up to you
I don't get it, why you wouldn't stay
It's easy love, when you don't stay away
You call me up, every other day
It's up to you
Our love is going
In circles again
Believe me I said it
Enough is not enough you don't get it
Our love is going
In circles again
Our love is going
In circles again
Believe me I said it
Enough is not enough you don't get it
Our love is going
In circles again
The lyrics to LANKS's song "Circles" seem to be about a relationship that has hit a snag. The singer seems to be frustrated with their partner for not giving them what they want emotionally. The partner is described as a "shadow" and a "hollow figure" who is physically present but emotionally distant. The singer is left feeling unsatisfied and longing for more. The repeated phrase "Our love is going in circles again" could be interpreted as the singer feeling stuck in this cycle of dissatisfaction and longing.
The line "Your thoughts are innocent but I wanted more" suggests that the partner may be unintentionally withholding love and affection, but the singer still feels the impact of their emotional distance. They are left wanting more from the relationship and feeling frustrated that their partner doesn't seem to be on the same page. Despite this frustration, the singer seems to still hold out hope for the relationship to work, as evidenced by lines like "It's up to you" and "Your hesitation makes me want you some more."
Overall, "Circles" seems to be a song about the challenges of navigating a relationship where one partner is emotionally distant. The singer is left feeling unsatisfied and frustrated by their partner's reluctance to fully commit, but still holds out hope for the relationship to improve.
