While continuing to front his seven-piece band Farrow, Lanks is a mature new side project that has allowed him to play freely with traditional folk storytelling in the modern framework of electronic music; taking parts from Radiohead’s intricate grooves, Bon Iver’s vocal layering and Jamie XX’s famed dead space.
His debut EP is a collection of songs that rises and falls in pictures and words, a project that combines cinematic soundscapes with electronic beats and evocative vocal narratives.
Although Lanks is a solo venture, with the 24-year-old writing, performing and recording the EP using synthesizers, guitars, samples and flutes over an intensive three month period, the live sets expand to include three other band members.
Lanks debut EP is available digitally on Bandcamp and iTunes.

Lanks Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Close the loop I'm terrified again
Whispering friend
We can't pretend
It's now my main regret
I won't have children in the world we shared
And they'll be less
In the first verse of "Spirits" by Lanks, the lyrics "Spirits in my head, close the loop I'm terrified again" could represent a struggle with inner demons or negative thoughts that haunt the songwriter's mind. Closing the loop may refer to finding a way to stop the pattern of these fears and anxieties. The line "Whispering friend, we can't pretend" suggests that these spirits or negative thoughts are familiar to the songwriter, possibly personifying them as a tormenting presence that cannot be ignored or denied.
The second verse continues with the lyrics "It's now my main regret, I won't have children in the world we shared, and they'll be less, without your self." Here, the songwriter expresses a deep sense of sadness and disappointment due to the circumstances of the world they inhabit. It seems that the world they shared with someone (presumably a romantic partner or loved one) cannot sustain the hope or possibility of bringing children into it. This regret stems from the belief that their offspring would be deprived of the person they are addressing, whose absence would make their children's lives less complete or meaningful.
Overall, these lyrics convey a theme of internal struggles and regrets. The presence of "spirits" in the songwriter's head implies a battle against psychological or emotional challenges, seeking closure or relief from these recurring fears. Additionally, the longing for children highlights a sense of loss and a diminished future as a result of the current state of the world. The songwriter recognizes the impact of the absent person's individuality on the potential lives of their children, emphasizing the significance of their presence and the profound effect their absence has on future generations.
