As well as being an in demand DJ, remixer & Producer he was responsible for two short lived, but original, groups, namely the Peech Boys & Man Friday both unsurprisingly were regulars on the Paradise Garage's turntables.
Larry Levan toured Japan in1992 & shortly after returning home, Levan voluntarily entered the hospital. He died four days later on November 8 of heart failure caused by endocarditis. In September 2004, Levan was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievement as a DJ.

I remember hearing Larry's version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" for the first time at the Paradise Garage NYC. That night Larry mixed a masterpiece, of a 20 something minute set of spiritual and sexual release. The energy of the crowd was electric, I felt like I was being lifted off the floor as waves of the intensely soulful vocals of Jocelyn Brown and Larry's brilliant mix crashed over my body. It was like being washed out to sea by a Tsunami of sound...I remember at the end of the set stumbling off the dance floor, in the afterglow of pure joy, spent and drained into the Crystal room to have a seat and get myself together. No drugs were needed for this mind altering experience, the music was everything……….
