Lost a brother

Fortunately, my mother is still alive.

Perhaps not everyone can relate to my situation.

That might be hard to believe
My story might be difficult to accept as true.

See, I've been up and I've been down
I've experienced both success and failure.

Smiled and I've frown
I've been sad and happy.

I've made every gesture
I've done everything a young man could do.

That a young man could steal
Referring to youth's inclination for taking risks and doing things they shouldn't.

And I know that I'm married to the sea
My heart belongs to the ocean.

You see, some people are on lockdown
Some people are confined by their circumstances.

And some are free
While others enjoy their freedom.

But I know that I'm married to the sea
But I am certain that I belong to the ocean.

Well I've been rich I've been poor
I've had both money and poverty.

Spent it on whores
I've spent my money carelessly and without consideration.

Got married and divorced
I got married and then separated from my partner.

To the girl that's next door
I married someone who lived close by.

Stolen fast cars, dated pop stars
I've done wild things like stealing cars and dating celebrities.

Been around the world
I've traveled the world.

Slept with underage women
I've had sexual relationships with underage girls.

Turned tricks for a thrill
I've done illegal or unethical things for excitement.

Tried suicide but didn't die
I've attempted suicide in the past and survived.

Well I'm here to tell
I'm here to say that ...

I don't know of heaven
I have no knowledge of what heaven looks like.

But I've made peace with hell
I don't fear hell, and have found a sense of reconciliation with it.

Been shot at, been stabbed
I've been attacked by bullets and knives.

Been beaten up real bad
I've been physically assaulted and hurt severely.

Survived everything without being killed
Despite all my experiences, I am still alive.

Slept in fancy hotels, eaten from garbage cans
I've experienced both luxury and poverty.

But down every highway I grew into a man
All my experiences have shaped me into the person I am today.

Seen my best friend die right before my eyes
My closest friend died while I was present.

Aborted a baby and shed all my tears
I had an abortion and felt sorrowful for my choice.

Been strung out on pills
I've struggled with drug addiction.

Slammed my share of dope yea
I've taken a large quantity of drugs.

I drank all your booze man
I drank all your alcohol.

And I snorted your coke
I ingested (snorted) the cocaine you offered me.

I've been loved I've been hated
Some people loved me and others despised me.

To me it's all the same
I don't get affected by people's opinions about me.

Embraced by a lover
