Lars Muhl er uddannet fra Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium i 1976.
I løbet af en lang musikalsk karriere, der varede fra 1967 til 1999 blev der solgt over 1 mio. plader med sange af Muhl, hvilket gav ham WCM's Songwriter's Million Certificate i 1996. Muhls karriere startede i bandsene Dragon Fly (1967), Daisy (1968-1974) og Warm Guns (1979-1984), men han var fra 1986 soloartist. I 1995 deltog han i Dansk Melodi Grand Prix med sangen Europa, der gav ham en andenplads. Desuden fungerede han som producer for bl.a. Henning Stærk.
Med udgivelsen af et opsamlingsalbum i 1999 stoppede Muhl som aktiv musiker og har siden helliget sig en tilværelse som forfatter, foredragsholder og alternativ behandler indenfor healing og indre vejledning.
