Power of Love
Laura Branigan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Of lovers sleeping tight
Are rolling like thunder now
As I look in your eyes
I hold on to your body
And feel each move you make
Your voice is warm and tender
[Chorus]
'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can
Even though there may be times
It seems I'm far away
Never wonder where I am
'Cause I am always by your side
[Chorus]
We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love
The sound of your heart beating
Made it clear
Suddenly the feeling that I can't go on
Is light years away
[Chorus]
We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love
The song "Power of Love" by Laura Branigan is a sentimental love ballad about the strong bond between two lovers. The lyrics describe a couple in bed, whispering intimately to each other at dawn. As they gaze into each other's eyes, the love they share is compared to the sound of thunder, powerful and electrifying. The singer expresses her devotion to her partner, reaffirming that she will always be there for him, even in times when she appears distant.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the deep connection between the two lovers, with the singer declaring that she is her partner's lady, and he is her man. She pledges to do whatever it takes to support him, whether he needs her close by or from afar. The song then takes on a hopeful note when the couple is pictured embarking on a journey together, despite the singer's initial fears of the unknown. She acknowledges the strength of their love, which she believes will carry them through any hardship.
Throughout the song, the lyrics are heartfelt and tender, with the singer's voice conveying the full range of emotions that come with being in love. The power of love is depicted as a transformative force that can overcome any obstacle and lead to new and exciting experiences.

1978, The first time I saw her, I was 32 years old and deployed in Germany. She was on German tv. All the duds went crazy, Laura Branigan, young and beautifull and an amazing voice.
1985 juli 11th, remembered the day, it was our 15th wedding ann, me and my wife experienced her concert at the Six Flags Jackson, New Jersey . Wow, what a performance. She grew older but even more atractive to watch and still that powerful voice. Her skills on the piano and the rendition of The Power Of Love make my wife grab her tissues.
1990, Atlantic City, I witnessed the best performance ever from Laura Branigan but without my wife, she passed away a year ago. With her emotional Power of Love on stage this time it was me searching for tissues.
2004. RIP Laura Brannigan. Forget Madonna, Beyonce and all those other clods. You outcast them all with your talent.
2020. I’m 74 yrs old now but still get my eyes wet watching your vids and remembering my wife.
