Aquilina's musical origins began with her playing piano in school. She has been singing since she was eight years old and has been playing piano since she was nine. A trilogy of self-released EPs ‘Fools’ (2012), ‘Sinners’ (2013) and ‘Liars’ (2014) saw Aquilina peaking in both the Official UK Singles Chart as well as creating more than just a splash in no-less-than six Billboard charts with her brilliantly haunting, trilogy concluding ‘Liars EP’. A string of UK festival dates followed, underpinned by an invitation to headline BBC Radio’s prestigious ‘Introducing’ stage at Reading and Leeds festivals.
Aquilina's song "Time to Say Goodbye" was featured in the season six advert for British drama Downton Abbey.
Aquilina released her debut album Isn't It Strange? under Island Records and Universal Music Group on 26 August 2016.
Following a break from recording and performing, Aquilina released "Psycho" in 2018 and ‘Tobacco in my Sheets’ in 2019.

Lauren Aquilina Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Controlled by outsiders, I guess they think we're fools
I think you and me could go somewhere new
I don't care what they're telling us to do
We know what they're hiding
We know we'll be fighting
Just machines, engineered to be no ones
We go through life, living off their fuel
That consists of regulations and rules
They say the sky's the limit, what if we could go further?
We'd never run out of minutes, just you me and the universe
We know what they're hiding
We know we'll be fighting
What if we are only robots?
Just machines, engineered to be no ones
We go through life, living off their fuel
That consists of regulations and rules
We know what they're hiding
We know we'll be fighting
What if we are only robots?
Just machines, engineered to be no ones
We go through life, living off their fuel
That consists of regulations and rules
The lyrics of Lauren Aquilina's song "Robots" tackle the issue of conformity in relationships and society as a whole. The first verse suggests that people are often controlled by outside influences, such as societal expectations and norms. The singer believes that she and her partner could break free from these restrictions and try something new. She doesn't care what others think or what rules they impose.
The chorus poses the haunting question of whether we are merely robots programmed to follow predetermined paths. The idea is extended to society at large, where people are expected to live their lives by adhering to the standards set by others. The lyrics suggest that we are living off the "fuel" of regulations and rules. The second verse proposes that humans have unlimited potential if they break free from these restrictions, enabling them to "go further" than the "sky's the limit" attitude we are commonly taught.
The song is open to interpretation, but it seems to emphasize the importance of breaking free from societal constraints and the value of individuality. It encourages listeners to resist societal expectations and embrace their true selves, rather than being constrained by the rules of others.

cya is a really prolific producer (which thank god bc whenever theres a drought he always comes through lol) but at the same time, he manages to give songs that have really interesting topics with really cute, well-mixed/chosen beats in the bg. everytime he releases something, i can see a clearer image of the legendary producer he'll become. also, he said he was experimenting with his rap style, but it seems these past few months he's really starting to get into a groove, it's amazing to see him grow lol

freaked out about this to my sister and she gave me a little derpy robot charm she had lying around (that she was about to get rid of, she only noticed how cute he is when showing him to me) and now he just looks at me with his adorably stupid eyes and he makes me happy. his name is now Doo-Dad and that is now what I am also calling the robot in this song. I need to give him a little heart.

That's so cute :(

Thanks a lot for the translation ! These lyrics remind me of BMO, it would be cohesive since it's his Adventure Time's favorite character. BMO, Finn and Jake live together, and BMO is always wanting to follow the two others in their adventures. It's been shown especially how much he loves and admire Finn, but also how he envies Finn&Jake's friendship - which is truly one of a kind ! Plus, Finn has other friends like Marceline or the Flame Princess. All of those unique relationships have already made BMO jealous in quite a few episodes, because it's something he can never experience since he's no living being, so to speak - even though he has emotions and feelings. Also there are occurrences when BMO expresses how lonely he feels because even though he loves Finn and Jake, he knows deeply that there's an emotional hole, because he has no friend like him who would be able to fully understand how he works. And there are times when he tried to explain those feelings to Finn & Jake, but the two didn't really understand even though they tried, since they're too different from the robot to imagine being in his place.
But there can be tons of inspirations to this song, i saw someone talk about Pinocchio down below as well... Anyways I know y'all love my wobbly theories 😂

Wow that BMO theory sounds pretty accurate tbh o: You always have spot-on theories! 👍🏻
