Thou shalt not fear
Lazarus A.D. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take a good look at me
Tell me what do you see
Asinine
Full of pride
Everything you can't deny
The bridge is burned
Nowhere to turn
Spun in a web of fear
Standing at the gate
Now it's too late
Surrender to the legion of fear

No escape
A shrouded fate
The virtue of travesty
United we stand
Divided hands
A pact of treachery
A knife in the back
The civil attack
Suppressing fire
How long will it last
This bonded past
Open fire

Take a good look at me
Tell me what do you see
Asinine
Full of pride
Everything you can't deny

No fear inside
Assault of lies
Reflected in the words you say
The antics silence
Through mirrored violence
Debt must be paid
Victimless crimes
Stuck in the lines
Engraved by your own hand
Thou Shall not fear

Your end is here
Engraved by your command

Overall Meaning

In Lazarus A.D.'s song "Thou Shalt Not Fear," the lyrics evoke feelings of rebellion and fighting against oppressive forces. The lyrics open with a confrontational tone, asking the listener to take a good look at the singer and ask themselves what they see. The repetition of "asinine" and "full of pride" create an image of someone who is not backing down, in spite of the danger they may face.

The song then moves into a more desperate tone, with the singer feeling trapped and encircled by fear. The idea of burning bridges and having nowhere to turn conveys a sense of finality - this is the last stand. The repeated references to fear and being surrendered to it show the struggle against it, but ultimately, the singer is stuck in it.

The final verse speaks again of the singer's confrontational nature, with an added hint of threat. The phrase "Thou Shalt not fear" is almost a command or warning to whoever is standing in the singer's way. Overall, the song is about standing up to oppression, whether it be from a literal enemy or from internal fear.

Sadly the 27 club strikes again, waay too many rock and pop stars die at 27. RIP Ryan, I wish I had discovered this band earlier. One can only hope that they reunite someday to produce more awesome thrash again, these guys seriously kick ass!!
