Big Deal
LeAnn Rimes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well he used to be mine
Not so very long ago
I was crazy to ever let him get away
But girl you should know better
Then to go braggin' in my face
So forgive me for what I'm 'bout to say

Big deal
So what? Who cares?
Ya just got lucky that's all it was
Shut up
Don't want a hear another word about
Candlelight and long stem roses
And how you're fallin' head over heels
In love, so what?
Big deal

He's perfect, I heard ya
The first ten times that ya told me
Yeah, yeah, it's amazin' his lovin'
I can't believe I let him go
I regret it, there I said it
Ya call yourself a friend
But ya just keep rubbin' it in

Big deal
So what? Who cares?
Ya just got lucky that's all it was
I swear if I hear another word about
Candlelight or long stem roses
And how you're fallin' head over heels
In love, so what?
Big deal

Congratulations, I'm just so happy for you
I can't contain the way I feel

Big deal, big deal
So what? Who cares?
Ya just got lucky that's all it was
Shut up
Don't want a hear another word about
Candlelight and long stem roses
And how you're fallin' head over heels
In love, so what?
Big deal
In love, so what?
Big deal

Ha ha it's a real big deal
Oh yeah
Ha ha it's a real big deal
Big deal
Ha ha it's a real big deal
In love, so what?

Shut up
Ha ha it's a real big deal

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to LeAnn Rimes' "Big Deal" express the regret and frustration of a woman who let the love of her life slip away, only to see him end up with a friend who now rubs it in her face. The singer initially acknowledges that she was foolish to let such a perfect man go, but then lashes out at her friend for boasting about her newfound love. She repeatedly tells her friend to "shut up" and expresses her disbelief that the relationship is anything more than just luck.

The chorus, "Big deal, so what? Who cares? You just got lucky, that's all it was" suggests that the singer believes the new couple's relationship is nothing special, despite her friend's bragging. She refuses to listen to any more talk about "candlelight and long stem roses," indicating that she is tired of hearing about the romantic gestures her friend's new beau is making. The final verse takes a sarcastic tone, as the singer congratulates her friend while still expressing resentment towards her.

Overall, the song depicts the struggle to move on from a lost love, and the pain that can come with seeing that love in the arms of someone else, especially a friend. The lyrics suggest that the singer is hurt and angry, but ultimately longs for closure and acceptance.

Yep, I'm still in love. I have been since I saw her on star search. Yes, we are close to the same age!!

LeAnn Rimes is probably the most completely real singer in the world. I see her in the simplistic stage and video settings. No fancy lights, exhibition stage dancers, etc. Just that fabulous voice, real emotion and honesty! 🌹🎶🌹🦃🥰 What year was this MDA telethon? LeAnn looks pretty young.

@timrogers1786

I think I remember that but it was 25 years ago. DANG, first time RIMES watching on Youtube #leannrimes

I am 74 years old and absolutely love LeAnn Rimes. I bought her first album when she arrived on the scene of entertainment. Too, I have lived in Dallas, Texas for about 40 years plus and was living here before LeAnn was even born. She, too, lived here! What a brilliant and a God given talent. At my social parties, LeAnn’s music entertains. She is fabulous on YouTube as well. As far as she and her new “hubby”, they have my support! What a beautiful couple! The way their exes condemn them, they deserve a divorce.

I was a fan of hers from the beginning! I used to drive my parents crazy singing (very tone deaf i might add) blue 😂

@levinmoser4001

You know there's a pro vocalist when the key signature changes mid-song and she nails it perfectly!

LOVE this! Just discovered this smash hit from years ago in July `23 ... Got my hands on her original CD (in perfect condition!) with this song on it. THAT recording was phenomenal ... really sounds 10X better than what you saw on this video. Great job, LeAnn!

@Sara-ts5uz

Love you

@christinamoore8887

It’s amazing that she sounds exactly the same on albums and live. I grew up to her and pretty much learned to sing by her

@katscratchfever3506

Right?? Not many people can!!
