Colors
Leaf Lyrics

You paint a picture slung with rage
The truth believes it's set in stone
But you're the painter, and I'm just the painting
(The Truth) Smeared shadows on the canvas, the flow is everlasting
The strokes seem effortless at convincing you to lean towards nefarious
The strokes seem effortless at convincing you to lean towards nefarious
The strokes seem effortless at convincing you to lean towards nefarious
Don't go away, I've longed to be around
You paint the picture everyday, colored by the sound
And as you work away, through the wire see the change
Anticipate
The palette's stained with red, and it's all I can see
No colors mixed, no colors run
A blank stare turned to rage, another page dowsed with ire
No colors mixed, no colors run and it's all I can see
A blank stare turned to rage, another page dowsed with ire
The strokes seem effortless at convincing you to lean towards nefarious
The strokes seem effortless at convincing you to lean towards nefarious
Tired strokes and the heavy brushes the painter only knows
Wide eyed people anticipating the lowest
Smeared shadows on the canvas, the flow is everlasting
The strokes seem effortless at convincing you to lean towards nefarious
Don't go away, I've longed to be around
You paint the picture everyday, colored by the sound
And as you work away, through the wire see the change
See the change. Anticipate
You paint the truth
Chroma eyes, free from ambition, only here to amuse myself
Spiraling doubt, free from illusion, only here to destroy myself
I can't fucking take it. And can you see my
Chroma eyes, free from ambition, I'm beginning to amuse myself

Spiraling doubt, free from illusion, I'm beginning to destroy myself
Hunting the dilemma

Overall Meaning

The song "Colors" by Leaf is a powerful and emotional track that explores the experiences and memories of a grandfather who fought in a war. The song begins with the grandfather showing a box of memories to his grandson and asking him if he wants to know about his experiences. The grandson asks if it was like the old war movies, and the grandfather responds that it was much more than that. He tells his grandson that the war was in color, not black and white like the old photos.

The song then goes on to describe the various experiences of the grandfather during the war. He talks about how he went from the shipyard to the sea, from the factory to the sky, and from boot camp to the battle cry. He describes how he wore a mask on the daylight run that held his face in its clammy hand and how he crawled over coconut logs and corpses in the coral sand. He also describes how he carried the canvas bag with the dead over the railing and watched as they were released into the swallowing sea.

The song reaches its climax when the grandfather says that he now lies in his grave at age 21, long before his grandson was born. He asks what good it did and says that he hopes that it was for a world without war and a life full of color. The song ends with the reminder that the war was in color, and that the memories of those who fought in the war are still vivid and real.
