After dropping out of college, Leah began pursuing a record deal as a solo artist while working at a restaurant, all the while honing her act in the clubs of Sand Diego and Los Angeles. She was able to pass along a demo to some RCA record execs who dined at her restaurant, signing Andreone exactly 24 hours later, after witnessing a live performance.
Her first release, 1996's alterna-pop Veiled was a major hit in France (along with it's single, "It's Alright, It's OK"), which led to an appearance with the inaugural Lilith Fair Tour.
Hooking up with heavy rock producer Bob Marlette for her next album, 1998's Alchemy, naturally led to a heavier and more varied sound, including cameos by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Marilyn Manson/Two/David Lee Roth guitarist John Lowery.
In 2006, Leah released her first Indie EP of demos called "Unlabeled-The Demos" which includes 7 songs. The songs on the EP will be on her record but no longer in demo form. These demos are Leah's way of "thinking out loud" before she commits to production. They are a brief peak into the creative process and what really happens before the produced version of a record comes out.
Happy Birthday

You're nice and warm the water's deep
I'm kickin' while you sleep
Muffled words I don't understand
But it sounds like talk is cheap
You're pushing hard it's cramped in here
Is this what warps my head
The lighting's red the pressure's high
Made in your image are you prepared
You are what you conceive
You're my first love I know you inside out
And what you already ate I'll eat
Naked and lonely
Will somebody hold me
The deed is done
Let's start day one
You're stuck with me
Ahhhh happy birthday 2x
This bloody maze is puzzling me
I can't find my way out
Should I turn back is it too late
Do second thoughts count
If I can't speak who'll speak for me
Can't even stand on my own two feet
I'm not afraid to ask will you hold my hand
Leaving here's kind of bittersweet
Naked and lonely
Will somebody hold me
The deed is done
Let's start day one
You're stuck with me
Ahhhh happy birthday 2x
Finally I'm safe home sweet home
Flesh of my flesh and bone of my bone
So many people so much love
Hip hip hip hooray I'll never be alone
Noah's ark didn't show up here
Holy water I guess I'm blessed
What's the buzz why the sweat
What's the hold up why the mess
Soon I'm yours and you're all mine
I hope I'm all you planned
Deliver me believe in me
Salvation's in your hands
Chorus
Leah Andreone's "Happy Birthday" song is a powerful and thought-provoking reflection on birth, life, and love. The opening lines "happy birthday to you, you're nice and warm the water's deep, I'm kicking while you sleep" describe the intimacy and vulnerability of the mother's womb, where the singer (presumably a newborn) is nestled and developing. The reference to "muffled words I don't understand, but it sounds like talk is cheap" could be interpreted as the singer's perception of the world outside the womb as chaotic and confusing.
As the song progresses, the singer questions their place in the world and their ability to navigate it. The verses about being lost in a "bloody maze" and needing someone to hold their hand convey a sense of helplessness and insecurity. However, the chorus rings with a note of triumph: "you're stuck with me, ah happy birthday," suggesting the determination to make a mark on the world and find a place to belong.
The song's final lines are a celebration of love and community, with the singer acknowledging the care and support they have received. Despite the uncertainty and challenges of life, the singer ultimately finds a sense of belonging and purpose.
