All I Ever Wanted
Lenny Kravitz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All I want you to do is to feel with me yeah
We both are hurting
And it's gonna take a little time
To heal all the wounds and save our family
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Remember kissing in the moonlight?
How we held each other all night
All I ever wanted was love
Darling darling darling
Don't you want to feel good inside?
It seems I've forgotten how it feels to be
Look up to the stars
And ask the heavens
To show you the truth
So that you can be free
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
All I ever wanted was love
Remember kissing in the moonlight?
How we held each other all night
All I ever wanted was love
Tell me what's the answer?
It's gotten so cloudy I just can't see
But you got your life and I got mine
Are we even?
When I know I want you
And baby you want me
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
All I ever wanted was love
Remember kissing in the moonlight?
How we held each other all night
All I ever wanted was love
Lenny Kravitz's song "All I Ever Wanted" is a plea for connection and healing in a strained relationship. The lyrics express deep pain and desire for love, and for the relationship between him and his partner to be restored. The first verse acknowledges the difficulties that they're facing, but also hints at the hope that still remains. He implores his partner to "feel with me," to come together and work towards healing the wounds that have separated them. Throughout the song, Kravitz stresses the importance of love and connection, which he sees as the key to saving the relationship.
The second verse of "All I Ever Wanted" reflects on happier times in the relationship, when they were able to connect and feel close to each other. Kravitz recalls moments of intimacy and tender affection, emphasizing the sense of loss that he feels now that those moments have faded. He urges his partner to "feel good inside," suggesting that by reconnecting with each other and with the love that they once shared, they can find a way to feel that same sense of joy and fulfillment again. The song concludes with a plea for clarity and for the truth to be revealed, so that they can both be free to reconnect and find the love that they both so desperately crave.
Overall, "All I Ever Wanted" is a poignant and heartfelt plea for connection and restoration in a relationship that has been strained by hurt and pain. Kravitz uses his soulful voice and evocative lyrics to convey a sense of longing and desire, as well as a deep commitment to making the relationship work.
