Since Leprous was founded in 2001, they've gone through a few changes in the line-up, and now consists of Einar Solberg (synth/vocals), Tor Oddmund Suhrke (guitar), Simen Børven (bass), Robin Ognedal (guitar) and Baard Kolstad (drums)
The young quintet have already made themselves visible on the Norwegian prog- and metal scene, and twice the band has made the finals in the Norwegian Rock Championship. Besides Leprous, the guys in Leprous are currently working as a session band of solo artist "Ihsahn", also known as the front figure of the legendary black metal band Emperor.
In August 2008, Leprous recorded their debut album "Tall Poppy Syndrome". As a result they caught the eye of several record companies, and ended up signing with the American label Sensory Records for a May 2009 release.
Prior to "Tall Poppy Syndrome", Leprous have recorded two demos which both received great accolades from the worldwide media, with the demo (self-financed full length album) "Aeolia" among other great reviews received a perfect 10 out of 10 score from the Norwegian webzine www.metal-norge.no. The band at that point decided to hold off on the search for a label to release their albums though, as they knew that they could create even better songs. And now, a couple of years later, "Tall Poppy Syndrome" is ready to hit the shelves.
Backed by Intromental Management & Booking Agency, Leprous spent 2009 promoting the release with numerous shows throughout Scandinavia, and entering 2010 the band and management laid plans for bringing the music of Leprous even further out to fans, by lining up shows around Europe and USA, as well as setting the band up as main support on Swedish orchestral metal band Therion's fall 2010 European tour, taking the band through no less than 17 countries in 30 days.
The music of Leprous is not an easy one to classify. Various genres are included, from progressive rock, to jazz, to pure metal. The vocals alternate between clean and growling, something which gives the music a heaviness it otherwise wouldn't have. To compare Leprous to other bands is practically impossible, but the closest comparisons would be bands such as Opeth, Arcturus, Porcupine Tree, Van Der Graaf Generator or Emperor. An interesting listening-experience for the open-minded music fan.

From The Flame
Leprous Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The first half of Leprous’s “From the Flame” seems to be about someone who has already left, someone who has made their surrender from the flame, but is still trying to communicate and make themselves known to those left behind. The singer addresses the absent party, telling them that they will find them here, where they gave up and made their surrender. Perhaps this alludes to a place of emotional pain or suffering, from which the singer has decided to depart. But why, then, do they still speak about taking their aim, an indication of forward movement, of aiming for a goal?
The second half of the song brings a bit more clarity, although it also deepens the emotional turmoil present in the first half. The singer is struggling to endure, they can’t say more than they have already said, and they are searching to be found when the other party is not around. They are without rest or support and make clear that this is their last resort. It is only when we understand this inner turmoil that the idea of the singer taking aim becomes clear - it is not so much a movement forward, but a defiant stand in the midst of their struggle. The repeated refrain of “you’ll find me here” and “I’ll take my aim” underline the singer’s resolve to make themselves known, to stand their ground, even in the midst of their pain.
Some possible interpretations of this song could include themes of emotional isolation, the struggle to be heard or understood, or a journey towards self-discovery and acceptance. The use of repeated phrases and echoes reinforce the idea of the singer wanting to be found, wanting to make an impact in their own understanding and the understanding of others.

Hey!
Thanks for your thoughts...
I agree with the “safe-ness” of this song...at least relatively! It’s a bit more “poppy” and easy to listen to. You can move your head to it without being confused...haha.
But, they still have their Leprous elements...nice time signatures, groovy atypical rhythms, great changing atmosphere!
Do you have a favorite song (or songs!) off this album? If so what about it?

His vocal manipulation is freaking amazing. I can’t get enough of these guys. I will be buying at least two of their albums this weekend. I really want to hear and feel his vocals on my stereo system.

I did exactly the same and bought Pitfalls and Bilateral!

It's one thing to make prog with weird time sigs, it's a whole nother thing to actually make it catchy. Leprous are masterminds. Simply AMAZING
necroplastful
Apparently the record is pretty poppy but with odd proggy time signatures! God I love this! Leprous are Avant Garde at its finnest. (but I still miss the Bilateral days :'( )

Omair Sheikh

Hey Omair, it's Spag. Looks like we won't get Bilateral 2.0 anytime soon. This is still great nonetheless.
