September Song
Lesley Garrett Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game
Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
The lyrics to Lesley Garrett's song September Song are reflective of the fleeting nature of time and the appreciation of the present moment. The opening line, "Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December," suggests that time appears to pass slowly, but the chorus "The days dwindle down to a precious few" highlights how quickly time truly passes. The mention of September and November signifies the time when the year is coming to an end, and the autumn weather turning leaves to flame could represent the beauty and frailty of life.
The lyrics express a sense of urgency and highlight the importance of cherishing the present moment. The line "One hasn't got time for the waiting game" suggests that time is too valuable to waste on inaction or waiting for something to happen. The lyrics also express the joy of spending time with loved ones, especially during the dwindling days of the year, and the importance of making the most of that time. The words "These precious days I'll spend with you" capture the sense of appreciation and gratitude in being able to spend time with someone special.
