Levi began to make his imprint on the Nashville community through regular co-writes with his father, Marcus Hummon (Grammy Award winning songwriter), and a regular rotation of writers who would join them. Levi loved relating to a listener through the stories he could craft. It wasn’t long before word spread of Levi’s talents, and he found himself writing with the greats such as 2014 ACM Songwriter of the Year Shane MacAnally, Andrew Dorff, Josh Osborne, Jonathan Singleton, Nathan Barlowe Brandy Clark, Trevor Rosen among others, and of course, Marcus Hummon. Learning to always bring in his own ideas and point of view to a writing session, Levi quickly streamlined his unique style. “You’re letting someone into your world which is really vulnerable,” says Levi. “I write from a reflective & personal place and ultimately I couldn’t see anyone else singing these songs.”
As a member of a multi-generational music family, Levi Hummon certainly appreciates his roots. While Levi is very much his own person & artist, he strongly values giving credit where it is due – and he finds himself fortunate to have his family be part of his journey. In addition to his father’s musical foundation, Levi draws inspiration from his mother, Becca Stevens, who founded the socially conscious & philanthropic organization, Thistle Farms (a residential program and social enterprise made up of women who have survived prostitution, trafficking, and addiction). This became a natural place for Levi to become involved where he further witnessed how music can provide a healing effect to those whom have suffered tremendously. “Thistle farms has always been a family to me,” says Levi. “There is so much knowledge to gain from spending time with the women. It makes me want to always forgive, never take anything for granted, and love everyone.”
Continuing to develop his personal sound, Levi found himself in great company while in Nashville. Marcus and Becca casually had their friend and Hall of Fame Songwriter, Desmond Child over for dinner, where Levi played a few songs. Desmond’s reaction was profound and immediate – he insisted on working with Levi. Soon after, Levi’s tune “Make it Love,” was featured in Child’s film, Two: The Story of Roman & Nero, which appeared on the short list of nominations for the Oscar’s “Best Original Song”. That was just the beginning for Levi. With overwhelming support from Nashville’s music community, Levi signed with Fletcher Foster’s new management and entertainment company, Iconic Entertainment Group.
Levi has recently signed with The Valory Music Co (Big Machine Record Label) artist roster, which includes Reba, Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert, Thomas Rhett, The Mavericks & RaeLynn. “As our Country format ebbs and flows, it’s always so important from an A&R perspective to look past what’s happening now and make some moves on the future direction,” said BMLG President & CEO Scott Borchetta. “Levi’s unique vision and incredible artistry is exactly the kind of musical move we want to make now. This is a very significant artist signing.” Levi Hummon is currently writing and recording for his first full-length album.
Paying For It

We never split one bill (not one time)
I ain't made of green
But I made it rain on your field (hey, hey, hey)
Never saw one penny roll out your purse
The whole time we were hooking up
When you said goodbye I figured
I'm still paying for it
Out the damn wazoo
Like you still on my tab girl 'cause I'm drinking for two
Droppin' all my quarters
On them sad, sad songs
And that cab ain't half price even though I'm riding alone
Ain't just that piggy bank you broke
My heart is achy breaking too
And I'm still paying for it
Met a girl in a bar (Lord, she was cute)
We had a dance or two (couple drinks too)
I had a pretty good chance of taking her home 'til I called her you
Yeah, the offering plate went by at church
And I almost took a dollar (I hit you back)
Feels like we got divorced (aye)
And I had a real cheap lawyer
And I'm still paying for it
Out the damn wazoo
Like you still on my tab girl 'cause I'm drinking for two (yeah, I've been drinkin')
Droppin' all my quarters
On them sad, sad songs (ew)
And that cab ain't half price even though I'm riding alone
Ain't just that piggy bank you broke
My heart is achy breaking too (come on)
And I'm still paying for it
Woo, here we go
I said my bill folds empty and so is my heart
Ain't no credit left on my credit card (no)
Running out of tears
Running out of gas
At the ATM and it hit me back
With the transaction denied, baby
Why you got me locked outside, baby?
I ain't even got a little jangle
I don't like being broke and single (I don't like it)
Yeah, you're costin' me all kinda things money can't buy
(Gotta do that, babe)
Yeah, I shoulda known what I had before I let her go, yeah
Just like my last dime
I'm still paying for it
Out the damn wazoo
Like you still on my tab girl 'cause I'm drinking for two
(Yeah, I've been drinking for two)
Droppin' all my quarters
On them sad, sad songs
And that cab ain't half price even though I'm riding alone
Ain't just that piggy bank you broke
My heart is achy breaking too
And I'm still paying for it (yeah, woo)
(Yeah) I'm still paying for it (I'm still paying for it)
(Aye, Levi we got wazoo in the song, bro)
(How 'bout that?)
The lyrics of Levi Hummon's song Paying For It depicts a person who is experiencing the aftermath of a relationship, where he expresses how he had spent a lot of money on his partner but never received anything in return. The singer reveals that he bought all his partner's drinks and never split the bill, even though he wasn't rich. He says that he made it rain on his partner's field, implying that he splurged a lot of money on her. However, when the relationship ended, he found out that he is still paying for it through his heartache, sad songs, and cab rides, even though his partner is no longer with him.
The song is also about regret, as the singer reflects and realizes that he should have appreciated what he had before he lost it. He tells the story of how he met a girl at a bar, but he missed his chance with her when he referred to her as 'you,' which was probably his ex-girlfriend's name. He compares the situation to a divorce where he had a cheap lawyer and feels like he got a raw deal.
Overall, Levi Hummon's song Paying For It narrates the pain of heartbreak, the regrets that come with it, and the cost that it has on the individual. It illustrates how even though a relationship might come to an end, the emotional and financial pain can continue for a long time.
