Painting
Lewis Del Mar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The walls are boring me
Paint it like you always dreamed it'd be
Turquoise, neon green
Paint it like you always dreamed it'd be

Throw like Pollock
Fuck the apartment
Oh, paint it like you always dreamed it'd be

(Oh, ooh, oh, oh, ooh, oh)

If you want it, you can have it
Every color that you see, see, see
If you want it, want it bad
Then build yourself a technicolor masterpiece, oh
Masterpiece, masterpiece, oh, yeah

A rainbow kitchen floor
You're laughin' like you always dreamed you'd be
(Come on, let's paint the door, ooh)
Handprints on the ceiling where our dreams will reach

So 'John Mchale-esque'
Straight lines don't exist
When you're livin' like you always dreamed it'd be

(Oh, ooh, oh)
And I don't know what you wish (Oh, ooh, oh)

If you want it, you can have it
Every color that you see, see, see
If you want it, want it bad
Then build yourself a technicolor masterpiece, oh
Masterpiece, masterpiece, oh, yeah

And many years from now
The landlord will kick us out
He'll cover all our sins
He'll paint it white again
And many years from now
The landlord will kick us out
He'll cover all our sins
He'll paint it white again (Oh, ooh, oh)
White, oh no, yeah, yeah (Oh, ooh, oh, oh, ooh, oh)

If you want it, you can have it
Every color that you see, see, see, yeah
If you want it, want it bad

Then build yourself a technicolor masterpiece, nah, nah, oh
Masterpiece, masterpiece

Overall Meaning

The song "Painting" by Lewis Del Mar is about a couple who decides to paint their apartment in bright, vibrant colors instead of sticking to the boring white walls. The verse "The walls are boring me / Paint it like you always dreamed it'd be / Turquoise, neon green / Paint it like you always dreamed it'd be" shows their desire to add more color and excitement to their living space. They even throw caution to the wind and messily splatter the paint around like Pollock as they chant "Throw like Pollock / Fuck the apartment / Oh, paint it like you always dreamed it'd be."

As the couple continues painting, they envision a rainbow kitchen floor and handprints on the ceiling where their dreams can reach. They don't want straight lines and perfection, but instead, they want to live like how they've always imagined. The chorus "If you want it, you can have it / Every color that you see, see, see / If you want it, want it bad / Then build yourself a technicolor masterpiece" repeats twice, emphasizing the idea that they can create the life they want if they're willing to put in the effort.

However, the song also acknowledges that their colorful masterpiece is temporary. "And many years from now / The landlord will kick us out / He'll cover all our sins / He'll paint it white again" shows the impermanence of their creation. Despite this, they don't let it detract from their experience and continue to enjoy their colorful world in the present.

@PneumaNoose

@@gingerleamcwow435 what a treat we have today, folks! We’ve spotted a Female Misogynist in her natural habitat! If you’re a woman with a mind of her own, BEWARE! This creature genuinely believes she’s the exception; so much so that when her nose isn’t firmly shoved up the bum of her Male Misogynist counterpart, she will make your ears bleed with her nonstop chatter on the correct way to be a woman. Make sure to keep your distance, though, as she has an impressive array of mating calls. Ranging from baby-talk all the way up to high-pitched shrieks, the Female Misogynist fakes her orgasms so much that she doesn’t even know what a real one is supposed to sound like. This is a technique learned from whence her kind wasn’t getting the attention she so desperately needs from the males. The “I know what men REALLY like so I’m gonna trash other women because I’m the exception” chick isn’t rare, but a true treat nonetheless!
