Webber and Wells have been playing together for many years as part of Black Mountain. The two decided to start a separate project together that they named Lightning Dust.
Committing themselves to a more simplistic approach with Lightning Dust, Webber and Wells also decided to escape the comforts of their familiar instruments and writing styles. On their self-titled debut, minimal and spacious arrangements and a moody, theatrical vocal-style aptly expose the demons, creating songs that creep into your bones with a haunting chill.
Their debut album was recorded in a dank cave and a bright blue house, perhaps an unconscious yet obsessive protest of the sunny beach and beer world that surrounded them on the outside. Many of the songs on this self-titled debut began years ago as melodies which persistently floated around in Webber's head.
Another album, Infinite Light, was released in August 2009. The band performed at Matt Groening's All Tomorrow's Parties festival in May 2010 in Minehead, England.
A third album, Fantasy, which featured synthesized music, drumming, some industrial instrumental work, all accompanying the band's spooky songs, was released June 25, 2013. This album included the song "Loaded Gun"; in 2014 it was used in French television series Série Noire, on SRC.

Hang on
We'll jump in the lava, it'll melt us together
Hold on
'Cus when it burns, it'll hurt
And when it rains, it'll pour
If these blue skies turn grey will you turn walk away and know
That when it burns, it'll hurt
And then you'll fall to the floor
Cuz it when it burns, it'll hurt
And when it rains, it'll pour
The song "Jump In" by Lightning Dust depicts a story of a situation where two people are in a complicated relationship. The first two lines of the song signify the burning passion between the two, and how unstoppable it is. They realize that their passion is so intense; it might be harmful eventually. The lyrics "We'll jump in the lava, it'll melt us together, Hold on" signify how they are ready to take the risk of getting hurt with each other, in the hope that it'll strengthen their bond. They are ready to face the consequences of their actions and take the plunge, no matter how harmful it may be.
The next set of lyrics "And when it burns, it'll hurt And when it rains, it'll pour" symbolizes the hardships that they both are going to face together in this process. They know it's going to be tough, and there will be times when they'll have to hold on to each other through thick and thin. The last set of lyrics "If these blue skies turn grey will you turn walk away, and know that when it burns, it'll hurt, And then you'll fall to the floor, Cuz when it burns, it'll hurt And when it rains, it'll pour" signifies that no matter how strong their bond is, there will be times when it'll be tested. The lyrics depict a story of a tumultuous relationship where they'll face challenges, but they'll stand together and fight the storm, no matter what.
