I'm waiting for the day you call me
I think I can do it on my own
Swinging like a pendulum
The time ticks by until it's gone
I'm thinking that
The sun has never shown
It's never gonna stop
Time is running out
Going into shock
'Cause you're
Too late
Too late
Too late
Oh oh oh oh oh
Never quite the effort-maker
I see you're not nearly ready
I think I can do it on my own
Just too late and still too little
I just seemed to miss you crawling
Never thought the day would come I know
Time is gonna start
It's never gonna stop
Time is running out
Going into shock
'Cause you're
Too late
Too late
Too late
Oh oh oh oh oh
Time is gonna start
It's never gonna stop
Time is running out
Going into shock
'Cause you're
Too late
Too late
Too late
You're too late
Too late
Too late
You're too late
Not quite
The same
Oh oh oh oh oh
The lyrics of Too Late by Like express the feeling of disappointment and the concept of time being wasted waiting for someone who never arrives. The song describes a back and forth dynamic in a relationship, where the singer is waiting for the other person to make an effort, but they never do. The pendulum metaphor symbolizes the constant swinging between hope and despair. The line "the sun has never shown" suggests that the singer has lost hope and that their patience has run out.
The chorus repeats the phrase "too late" multiple times, emphasizing the idea that the opportunity for the other person to make things right has passed, and they have missed their chance. The second verse describes how the singer has come to the realization that they can manage on their own and that it's too little too late for the other person. The line "never thought the day would come I know" implies that the singer had hope that things would work out, but they no longer believe that to be true.
Overall, Too Late is a song about the disappointment of waiting for someone who never arrives and the realization that it's time to move on. The repeated use of the phrase "too late" throughout the song emphasizes the finality of the situation.
