Coma
Like Torches Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You are dancing in the darkness.
Stumble, fall and now you crawl.
I am chasing after you with one last call,
But you're long gone.

I, I tried to be strong,
I kept holding on,
Wondering when you would wake up.
You, been sleeping so long.
So hopeless, so wrong,
And I won't be here when you wake up.

Lies, ringing in my ears,
You made a sound and shot me down.
I am longing for the truth, but it's no use,
There's none in you.

Time, passing by.
Tell me why, can't you try?

I, I tried to be strong,
I kept holding on,
Wondering when you would wake up.
You, been sleeping so long.
So hopeless, so wrong,
And I won't be here when you wake up.

Will you wake up?

I, I tried to be strong,
I kept holding on,
Wondering when you would wake up.
You, been sleeping so long.
So hopeless, so wrong,
And I won't be here when you wake up.

Can you feel this coma creeping in?
It all goes dark again (all goes dark again)
Close this book up, forget everyone.
All is said and done (all is said and done)

I can feel this coma coming on.
You're already gone.

Overall Meaning

The Like Torches song "Coma" is a heart-wrenching track that speaks about how it feels to watch someone you love slip away from you. The first verse paints a vivid picture of a person dancing in darkness and falling, ultimately crawling away. Despite the singer's attempts to chase after their loved one, they can't catch up as they're gone already. The chorus then repeats the sentiment that the singer is holding on to the hope that their loved one wakes up, but they know deep down that they won't be there when they do. The second verse speaks about the lies that the loved one has told, with the singer longing for the truth, to no avail. Time keeps passing by, and the singer can't help but wonder why their loved one won't try to come back.

The bridge then features the repeated line "Can you feel this coma creeping in?" which speaks about the inevitability of the situation. The loved one is slipping away, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. The singer then resigns themselves to the fact that the book must be closed, and everything forgotten. All is said and done, and the coma is coming on, with the loved one already gone.

Overall, the song is an emotional tribute to the pain of losing someone you love. Just as a coma slowly takes over a person's life, the pain of losing that person can slowly take over your own.
