Growing up, Boosie was hardened by the many difficult experiences he was put through. His neighborhood, notorious for drugs and violence, was a place feared by the general population. To outsiders, it was a jungle, to residents, it was life. Boosie got very involved in basketball to stay off the streets, and was actually expected to move on to college level basketball.
At 14 years old, Boosie moved in to live with his grandmother after his father was murdered over drugs. Growing up with no father figure and without a strong guiding hand, Boosie turned to drugs and crime. After being expelled from school, Boosie picked up freestyling and began to get serious about his music. Living in the 225, Boosie had no contacts, no real means of exposure. Lil Boosie teamed up with Baton Rouge rapper C-Loc in the late 1990s and made his debut on C-Loc's 5th album, "It's a Gamble", which also featured Three Six Mafia, South Park Mexican, and the rest of the Concentration Camp. This album was a saving grace for C-Loc, as he was slowly losing popularity. Releasing this album put him back in the spotlight, as he had a new young tallented rapper at his side. Baton Rouge couldn't get enough. Shortly afterwards, Boosie released his debut CD, "Youngest of the Camp", which sold over 10,000 units and featured fellow up and coming Baton Rouge rapper Max Minelli, which was exactly what boosie needed to jump start his career. The album spread like wildfire, every hood in Baton Rouge had flyers up for it, everybody was playing it.
After the incarceration, Boosie once again turned back to the streets. Ultimately, his behavior led to him also being incarcerated. At this point, Boosie felt as though he was a failure. However, fate lent Boosie a hand, and Boosie had an opportunity to join an up and coming record label called Trill Entertainment aka Trill Ent which was backed by Pimp-C of UGK. Trill signed Boosie and assisted him in bring his legal issues to an end. Soon after, Boosie and Trill independently released the CD "For my Thugs" under TrillEnt. This release went on to sell over 15,000 copies. Later in the summer of 2003, Boosie co-starred with one of his label-mates, Webbie, on the album "Ghetto Stories" which also went on to sell well over 15,000 copies.
Again paired up with Webbie, Lil Boosie's 2004 release, "Gangsta Musik" is what really gained him popularity. This CD featured the ever popular songs "Swerve" (which later made an appearance in the movie "Hustle and Flow"), "Give Me That", and "Bad Bitch". This was Boosie's first really popular album, actually penetrating the borders of Louisiana and reaching far beyond.
Boosie's talent was now undeniable, and he caught the eye of some Universal Records representatives. In late January of 2005, Boosie signed a deal with Universal, and released the CD "Boosie Bad Azz". This album, backed and promoted by Universal Records, was his strongest yet. Boosie continues to gain popularity at an astonishing rate, and is no stranger to trouble with the law. Already incarcerated for probation violation on drug and gun charges, the Trill Entertainment rapper and two associates (one of them only 17 years old) were indicted on first-degree murder charges by a grand jury on Thursday, June 17, 2010. The men are accused of being involved in the shooting of 35-year-old Terry Boyd in his own house in October. District attorney Hiler Moore stated that the killing seemed to be "over turf" and that if Lil Boosie is convicted the death penalty is not out of the question. The same day, Hatch was also indicted on multiple drug and conspiracy charges for smuggling large amounts of codeine, ecstasy and marijuana into prison with intent to distribute. His girlfriend, a prison guard and a fellow inmate were also charged as co-conspirators. In addition to these charges, prosecutors believe the 27-year-old rapper may have been involved in at least five other slayings.

Boosie Badazz
This for my niggas that's dead
Now they ain't with us no more
But when my niggas was with me
Them was my niggas for sure
I can depend on my dogs
'Cause they would jump in that water
Until I die, I will hold it down as a hawk
This for my niggas that's dead
Now they ain't with us no more
But when my niggas was with me
Them was my niggas for sure
I can depend on my dogs
'Cause they would jump in that water
Until I die, I will hold it down as a hawk
I lost some loyalty soldiers
Who down to jump in that water
Head first with no goggles
Will jump in front of her father
Got your mama, baby mamas
And your precious little daughter
I'm gon' step up as a father
So everything gon' be gravy
When your daddy was living
He was for sure with his dawgs
Now he up there smiling looking
Watching over us all
I cherish our memories
Can't bury our memories
Remember you caught Trell
Drinking too much Hennessy?
There's ways to hustle harder
But learned to hustle smarter
Went from local niggas
To on shows with Dwayne Carter
Bleep, Ivan and Nick, our thorough days I miss
Rest in Peace Michael Jackson
My goon from off the bricks
Double digit killers
We spend bands like 5-0
Live fast, drive fast
But we enjoy the ride though
Miss you but you ain't here no more
And it's for sure from the start
For sure from the heart, so nigga
This for my niggas that's dead
Now they ain't with us no more
But when my niggas was with me
Them was my niggas for sure
I can depend on my dogs
'Cause they would jump in that water
Until I die, I will hold it down as a hawk
This for my niggas that's dead
Now they ain't with us no more
But when my niggas was with me
Them was my niggas for sure
I can depend on my dogs
'Cause they would jump in that water
Until I die, I will hold it down as a hawk
Now I'm a killer for reala
Third Ward fucking nigga
As I look in the mirror
I see my chest getting bigger
I'm like bitch take a picture
I might not be here for long
I sleep with gats in my bed
I got one taped to my leg
I'm out here makin' this bread
I'm out here bustin' them heads
A lot of couples are dead
But Eyez and T in the fed
Rest in peace to your soldier
I got the world on my shoulders
I break a brick down to broaders
Come up short I'ma fold you
My baby girl getting older
I can't leave 'em to bastard
They can't live without money
So I'ma rob if I have to
And I'ma die if I have to
Call me cup lord forver
Just like Levi and Randy
My name will be ringing forever
Kevin whoodie I miss you
I miss you more than myself
I feel like murkin' myself
I couldn't give you no help
That's why I'm out here now
Givin these niggas the blues
For my niggas that's dead
They was the TRU tattoo
This for my niggas that's dead
Now they ain't with us no more
But when my niggas was with me
Them was my niggas for sure
I can depend on my dogs
'Cause they would jump in that water
Until I die, I will hold it down as a hawk
This for my niggas that's dead
Now they ain't with us no more
But when my niggas was with me
Them was my niggas for sure
I can depend on my dogs
'Cause they would jump in that water
Until I die, I will hold it down as a hawk
I'mma ride for C
Pick up all the rappers for the 3
They we gotta run up on 'em in the street
Boy they runnin' with the heat
Livin in the valley of the piece
So the nigga never runnin' with the freak
And we straight form the gutter, that rathole
They prolly
With the meter that mess up your asshole
Like Boosie that bottom we flat broke
Where the stacks yo? It's that TRU shit
We hustle hard to get new shit
Either rob with it, or lose this
With that fool dick 'cause you a stupid bitch
I'm a black boy from that Third Ward
And I think boy you better play dumb
My nigga died from them nine shots
Got caught up
But he up in the projects workin' wrist
On the Pyrex look the brother work the wrist
Nigga dumpin the money nigga hurtin' shit
So I'ma get it how I live it, nigga murk the bitch
Rest in Peace to my real niggas
Marked T, screamin' free C
My dog Moe keep it 100
We gon' keep it gangsta like BG
This for my niggas that's dead
Now they ain't with us no more
But when my niggas was with me
Them was my niggas for sure
I can depend on my dogs
'Cause they would jump in that water
Until I die, I will hold it down as a hawk
This for my niggas that's dead
Now they ain't with us no more
But when my niggas was with me
Them was my niggas for sure
I can depend on my dogs
'Cause they would jump in that water
Until I die, I will hold it down as a hawk
In the song "For my Thugz," Lil Boosie pays tribute to his fallen comrades. He reminisces on the loyalty, memories, and sacrifices they shared together as members of the same hood. Boosie acknowledges that even though they are gone, those that have passed remain with him in his heart and through his memories. He honors them as his brothers, vowing to carry on with their legacy until his dying breath.
Throughout the song, Boosie highlights the rough and dangerous lifestyles of the thugs he grew up with. He acknowledges the dangers they faced while living in the projects and how they stood by each other through thick and thin. Boosie knew that he could count on his crew to have his back, no matter the severity of the situation. He ends the song by reminding listeners that he is willing to ride or die for his people, and he will continue to hold it down as a hawk because that's what his thugz would have wanted.
