Alfie
Lily Allen [www.musikaki.blog.br] Lyrics

Oh, deary me
My little brother's in his bedroom smoking weed
I tell him he should get up 'cause it's nearly half past three
He can't be bothered 'cause he's high on THC
I ask him very nicely if he'd like a cup of tea
I can't even see you 'cause the room is so smokey
Don't understand how one can watch so much TV
My baby brother Alfie, how I wish that you could see

Oh, I only say it 'cause I care
So please can you stop pulling my hair
Now, now there's no need to swear
Please don't despair my dear, Mon frere

Oh, Alfie get up it's a brand new day
I just can't sit back and watch you waste your life away
You need to get a job because the bills need to get paid
Get off your lazy arse
Alfie, please use your brain
Surely there's some walls out there that you can go and spray
I'm feeling guilty if I leading you astray
Now, how the hell do you ever expect that you'll get laid
When all you do is stay and play on your computer games?

Oh, I only say it 'cause I care
So please can you stop pulling my hair
Now, now there's no need to swear
Please don't despair my dear Mon frere

Oh, little brother, please refrain from doing that
I'm trying to help you out so can you stop being a twat
It's time that you and I sit down and had a little chat
Just look me in the eyes take off that stupid fitted cap

Oh, I only say it 'cause I care
So please can you stop pulling my hair
Now, now there's no need to swear

Please don't despair

Please don't despair
Mon frere

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lily Allen's "Alfie" describe the frustration of an older sister whose younger brother, Alfie, is wasting away his life smoking weed, watching TV, and playing video games. She tries to intervene by offering him tea, suggesting he get a job, and even attempting to have a heart-to-heart conversation with him about his future. But Alfie is too high to care, and the sister is left feeling guilty and helpless.

The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the scene: the room is so smokey that the sister can't even see Alfie, and he's swearing and pulling her hair in response to her attempts to help him. Despite the humor in the lyrics, the song has an underlying message about the dangers of drug use and the importance of taking responsibility for one's life choices.

@@rachael1445 C'mon. It's absolutely refreshing to know he did good after this song.

Heck, I didn't know Lily made it for him in the first place til now, and after I did a little research, my heart melted. Made me like her even more.

Lyrics obviously showed so much love for her little brother.

And he paid it back with his success.

I'm sure they're both really happy.

lily now should make a song telling alfie she's proud of him.

@Sm1ley1987

That's actually a fucking amazing idea...

@NarutoDisturbed

It's pretty clear this song doesn't come from a place of love, and considering she tried to trivialize his accomplishment by lying and saying she was offered a role as Yara/Asha and turned it down, I'd say she has no interest in that kind of thing.
