Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Buddy you're a boy make a big noise
Playin' in the street gonna be a big man some day
You got mud on yo' face
You big disgrace
Kickin' your can all over the place
Singin'

We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you

Buddy you're a young man hard man
Shouting in the street gonna take on the world some day
You got blood on yo' face
You big disgrace
Wavin' your banner all over the place

We will we will rock you
Sing it
We will we will rock you

Buddy you're an old man poor man
Pleadin' with your eyes gonna make
You some peace some day
You got mud on your face
Big disgrace
Somebody betta put you back into your place

We will we will rock you
Sing it
We will we will rock you
Everybody
We will we will rock you

We will we will rock you
Alright

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Linda Ronstadt's song We Will Rock You are about the journey of a man from childhood to old age, and his struggles to make it big in life. The song is essentially broken down into three parts, each describing a different phase of the man's life. In the first part, the man is still a boy who has big dreams and aspirations of being a successful man. However, he's not there yet, and he is still playing in the streets with mud on his face, which is seen as a big disgrace. Despite this setback, he remains optimistic and sings that "We will rock you." This can be interpreted as a rallying cry to motivate himself and others to keep pushing and never give up on their dreams.

The second part describes the man as a young adult who is shouting in the streets, determined to take on the world and make something of himself. He still has blood on his face, which can be seen as a symbol of the many battles and struggles he has gone through in his quest for success. However, he remains undeterred and waves his banner proudly, signaling his determination and never-say-die spirit. Once again, he sings "We will rock you" as a reminder to himself and others that despite the odds, they will eventually triumph.

Finally, in the last part of the song, the man is an old man who has seen it all and is now at peace. He pleads with his eyes for someone to bring him some peace and put him back in his place. Despite having mud on his face, which is still seen as a big disgrace, he has achieved a certain level of contentment and calmness and is ready to embrace whatever comes his way. Once again, he and the rest of the chorus sing "We will rock you," which can be interpreted as a message to the next generation to keep striving for their dreams and never give up.

Overall, the song is an anthem of hope and inspiration, encouraging listeners to stay strong and persevere in the face of adversity.
