1) Lindisfarne were an English folk-rock group from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, formed in 1968. The original line up was Alan Hull, Ray Jackson, Ray Laidlaw, Rod Clements, and Simon Cowe.
The group released their debut Nicely out of Tune in 1970. Their second album, Fog on the Tyne, was produced by Bob Johnson, who had also worked with Bob Dylan, to whom Alan Hull was being compared at the time. Following their third album, Dingly Dell, the group split and Lindisfarne (Mark II) continued with new members, and produced a few more albums before disbanding in 1975, seemingly for good.
1978 saw the original group re-form, with the album Back and Fourth, and the hit single "Run for Home". This line-up continued for many years. New member Marty Craggs came in for the 1986 album Dance Your Life Away. Ray 'Jacka' Jackson eventualy left to work in London, and then Si Cowe left to run a brewery in Canada. Jackson now (2008) has a career as an artist, specialising in colourful paintings of buses, a passion since he was a boy. He also played the mandolin on Rod Stewart's "Maggie May".
The group celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary of performing at Newcastle City Hall in the summer of 1995. Less than six months later Hull died of a heart attack. There was a period of consolidation for the group, which decided to continue - going back to their folk roots, and new members Billy Mitchell, Dave Denholm and Ian Thompson. This line up continued for several years until the departure of Marty Craggs. After this the three remaining members continued to tour as an acoustic trio before calling it a day with a final gig on 17th May 2004.

Lindisfarne Lyrics

I don't want to know you till I know myself less.
I'm gonna forget where I'm going, remember where I've been
you won't see me till I wanna be seen.
I wanna go back where you've never been,
I wanna feel things like you've never even dreamed
I'm lying on the grass in a blood-stained field
You took me for a fool, you took me for a ride
But this is where I get off 'cos I'm going inside.
I'm gonna forget where I'm going, remember where I've been
don't think I've lost my mind if I let out a scream.
I wanna go back where you've never been,
I wanna feel things like you've never even dreamed
I'm flying through the sky on a black and blue night
And I'll drink this midnight air till I see the day light.
I wanna go back where you've never been,
I wanna feel things like you've never even dreamed
I'm flying through the sky on a black and blue night
And I'll drink this midnight air till I see the day light.
The lyrics of Lindisfarne's song "Go Back" are highly introspective, suggesting feelings of discontent in a relationship. The opening lines reveal this discrepancy between the singer's and their partner's perceptions of themselves. While the partner assumes they are "nice to know," the singer feels like they still need to figure themselves out. This idea of needing to "know myself less" before starting a relationship reflects the common fear of losing oneself in a romantic partnership.
The chorus of the song features the repetition of the line "I wanna go back where you've never been," which could be interpreted in two ways. On one level, it could mean the singer wants to escape the baggage of their relationship and go back to a time when their partner wasn't in their life. Alternatively, it could be a more metaphorical interpretation of wanting to "go back" to a place of emotional purity and innocence before being hurt in love. The following lines describe the singer's need to experience new things and sensations on this quest for self-discovery, such as laying on a "blood-stained field" or "flying through the sky."
The last two lines of the song have a sense of resolution, indicating the singer has found an internal sense of peace after their struggles. The line "And I'll drink this midnight air till I see the day light" is a metaphor for persevering through the darkness until you can see the light. Overall, "Go Back" is a song about personal growth and the difficulties that come with it, especially when in a relationship.
