And the sound of violins in the air
Love was all we knew
But now we're through
And no-one really cares – oh, no-one cares
Cries, anger and lies
And the smell of violence in the air
Nothing's left to show
And no-one really cares – oh, no-one cares
Ouch! Oh…
You broke my heart
Now you're tryin' to break the bank
Never wanted a restart
Leaving me a poor man
You're never satisfied
No matter how much you get
But I won't lose my smile
Even if I'm deep in debts
I'm sitting here, no bucks to spend
My lawyer's on holiday again
But skies, again, turn pretty blue
Without you…
The lyrics of Link's song "Break in 2" speak about the contrast between a once-loving and peaceful relationship and its painful and destructive end. The first verse describes a time of innocence and happiness, where the skies are clear and blue and the sound of violins fills the air. Love was all that mattered, but now the relationship has come to an end, and the singer feels like nobody truly cares about their pain.
The second verse takes a darker turn, as it talks about cries, anger, lies, and the smell of violence in the air. Love feels like a distant memory, with nothing left to show for it. The repeated phrase "no-one really cares" emphasizes the feeling of being alone and abandoned in the aftermath of a broken relationship.
The bridge of the song expresses the singer's frustrations and heartbreak. They accuse their former partner of not only breaking their heart but also trying to take everything else away from them, attempting to "break the bank." The singer never wanted to start over, and the breakup has left them feeling like a poor man in more ways than one. Despite this, they remain determined to not let their ex-partner's actions steal their happiness, vowing to keep their smile intact even if they are burdened with debts.
The final lines of the song reveal a glimmer of hope and healing. The sad and lonely sitting position described in the last verse is juxtaposed with the return of the pretty blue skies. The singer realizes that life can still be beautiful and fulfilling without their ex, and they are starting to find their own path forward without them.
Overall, "Break in 2" is a heartfelt and honest exploration of the pain and aftermath of a broken relationship. It touches upon the feelings of loneliness, abandonment, and the resilience needed to move on and find happiness again.
