Hit The Floor
Linkin Park怀 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There are just too many times that people have tried to look inside of me
Wondering what I think of you well I protect you out of courtesy
Too many times that I've held on when I needed to push away
Afraid to say what was on my mind
Afraid to say what I need to say
Too many things that you've said about me when I'm not around
You think having the upper hand means you gotta keep putting me down
But I've had too many standoffs with you it's about as much as I could stand
So I wait till the upper hand is mine

One minute you're on top
The next you're not, watch it drop
Making your heart stop
Just before you hit the floor
One minute you're on top
The next you're not, missed your shot
Making your heart stop
You think you've won
And then it's all gone

So many people like me that put so much trust in all your lies
So concerned with what you think to just say what we feel inside
So many people like me walk on eggshells all day long
All I know is that all I want is to feel like I'm not stepped on
There are so many things you say that make me feel you cross the line
What goes up will surely fall, and I am counting down the time
Cause I've had so many standoffs with you it's about as much as I could stand
So I waiting until the upper hand is mine

One minute you're on top
The next you're not, watch it drop
Making your heart stop
Just before you hit the floor
One minute you're on top
The next you're not, missed your shot
Making your heart stop
You think you've won
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
Now it's all gone.
I know I'll never trust a single thing you say
You realize you divide us but you lied anyway
And all the lies have got you floating up above us all
But what goes up has got to fall

One minute you're on top
The next you're not, watch it drop
Making your heart stop
Just before you hit the floor
One minute you're on top
The next you're not, missed your shot
Making your heart stop
You think you've won
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone
And then it's all gone

And then it's all gone
Now it's all gone.

Overall Meaning

In "Hit The Floor," Linkin Park addresses the theme of betrayal and the struggles that come with putting up with negative treatment from others. The opening lines talk about people trying to look inside of the singer, wondering what they think of the person they are addressing. The singer acknowledges their protective behavior towards this person, which comes out of courtesy, even though they have been holding back and not speaking their mind.

The lyrics then talk about the many times that the person has been put down by the other, who thinks that having the upper hand means being able to put the singer down. The singer has had enough of the standoffs and wants to wait until they have the upper hand to take control of the situation. The chorus talks about the fleeting nature of success and how it can quickly disappear, leaving the person feeling powerless.

The second verse talks about the many people that trust the lies of the person, rather than saying what they feel inside. The singer has had enough of walking on eggshells all day long and wants to be acknowledged as an equal, without being stepped on. The lyrics go on to say that the singer will never trust the person again, as they have been divided by the lies. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the temporary nature of success and how it can quickly disappear.

Lyrics

Yeah

[Chorus: Mike Shinoda]
I guess that this is where we've come to
If you don't want to, then you don't have to believe me
But I won't be there when you go down
Just so you know now, you're on your own now, believe me

[Verse 1: Ryu]
I don't wanna be the one to blame
You like fun and games? Keep playing 'em
I'm just saying, think back then, we was like one and the same
On the right track, but I was on the wrong train
Just like that, now you gotta face the pain
And the devil's got a fresh new place to play
And in your brain, like a maze you can never escape the rain
Every damn day is the same shade of grey

[Verse 2: Mike Shinoda]
Hey, I use to have a little bit of plan
Use to have a concept of where I stand
But that concept slipped right out of my hand
Now, I don't really even know who I am
Yo, what do I have to say?
Maybe I should do what I have to do to break free
And whatever happens to you, we'll see
But it's not gonna happen with me

[Chorus: Mike Shinoda]
I guess that this is where we've come to
If you don't want to, then you don't have to believe me
But I won't be there when you go down
Just so you know now, you're on your own now, believe me

[Verse 3: Mike Shinoda]
Back then, I thought you were just like me
Somebody who could see all the pain I see
But you proved to me unintentionally
That you would self destruct eventually
Now I'll be thinking like the mistake I made doesn't hurt
But it's not gonna work cause it's really much worse
Than I thought, I wished you were something you were not
And now this guilt is really all that I got

[Verse 4: Tak]
You turn your back and walk away in shame
All you got is a memory of pain
Nothing makes sense and you stare at the ground
And hear my voice in your head when no one else is around
So what do I have to say?
Maybe I should do what I have to do to break free
And whatever happens to you, we'll see
But it's not gonna happen with me

[Chorus: Mike Shinoda]
I guess that this is where we've come to
If you don't want to, then you don't have to believe me
But I won't be there when you go down
Just so you know now, you're on your own now, believe me
I guess that this is where we've come to
If you don't want to, then you don't have to believe me
But I won't be there when you go down
Just so you know now, you're on your own now, believe me

[Outro: Mike Shinoda]
(I'll do what I have to do)
You're on your own now, believe me
(Whatever happens to you
You're on your own now, believe me
(What do I have to say?)
You're on your own now, believe me
(Is not gonna happen with me)
You're on your own now, believe me

@micheledorman273

NO disrespect to mike Shinoda because he is extremely talented but when talking about rap Eminem is on a whole different level than Mike. To say both of their names in one sentence is a shame. Aditya Eminem is a pure legend and one of the top 3 lyricist to ever spit a line

17 years later and this still sounds and gives you the feeling of you just hearing it yesterday. Timeless, substantial, classic, influential, and will never be forgotten.
