Leave Out All The Rest
Linkin Park(린킨 파크) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I dreamed I was missing
You were so scared
But no one would listen
Cause no one else cared
After my dreaming
I woke with this fear
What am I leaving
When I'm done here?
So, if you're asking me, I want you to know

When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed
And don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest
Leave out all the rest

Don't be afraid
I've taken my beating
I've shared what I've made
I'm strong on the surface
Not all the way through
I've never been perfect
But neither have you
So, if you're asking me, I want you to know

When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed
And don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest
Leave out all the rest

Forgetting
All the hurt inside you've learned to hide so well
Pretending
Someone else can come and save me from myself
I can't be who you are

When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed
And don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest
Leave out all the rest

Forgetting
All the hurt inside you've learned to hide so well
Pretending
Someone else can come and save me from myself

I can't be who you are
I can't be who you are

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Linkin Park's "Leave Out All The Rest" explore the theme of mortality and the fear of leaving this world with nothing to show for it. The first two lines set the stage with a dream sequence, where the singer (presumably lead singer Chester Bennington) is missing and the person he cares about is scared. However, no one cares enough to listen to her fears. This sets up the theme of being forgotten and left behind.

The chorus reveals the singer's plea to the loved ones he leaves behind. He wants them to forget the wrongs he's done and remember him for the good he's brought into their lives. He acknowledges that he's not perfect, but he hopes to leave a positive legacy. He urges them not to resent him for leaving and to hold onto their memories of him.

The final lines acknowledge that everyone has their own struggles and can't be someone else. The singer can't be who the loved one wants him to be, but he hopes that leaving a positive impact will be enough.

Overall, "Leave Out All The Rest" is a poignant and introspective song about the desire to be remembered for the good we've done and the fear of being forgotten when we're gone.

You probably don't know how music, or any art for that matter, helps out people going through depression.

LP helped me cope up with it because of their lyrics, and Chester's vocals bringing the music to life really helped me during my depression during my high school years.

I won my battle against depression with the help of LP(and others), but Chester lost.

RIP, Chester.
